The Mind in Harrogate District Befriending Service continues to grow, with 40 befriending relationships currently meeting regularly in community settings and public locations across our Harrogate district.

But there are more local people waiting for the right match with a volunteer. At present, there is a particular need for male volunteers of all ages to match with men who would benefit from connecting with a positive male role model who can offer companionship, understanding and support.

If you are a compassionate, friendly and positive individual who would like to make a difference within your local community, the team at Mind would love to hear from you. Mind provide all volunteers with Mental Health First Aid Awareness training, a full induction programme, and ongoing support and supervision throughout their volunteering journey.

Over the last 20 years the fab team have created many brilliant local projects. You could help them build on these achievements and create many more positive projects for the town. 🧡

🌟20 years of making Knaresborough even better - and we’d love your ideas!

For 20 years, Renaissance Knaresborough has supported local volunteers to turn ideas into projects that make a real difference to our wonderful town.
At our recent event, we celebrated some of those achievements with a film showcasing the incredible things local volunteers have helped make happen over the years; from play parks and the Horseshoe Fields bridge, to Viaduct Terrace, a Wind in the Willows theatre production, the Save the Castle campaign and helping Knaresborough Heritage Centre get off the ground.
You may know us best for the popular Knaresborough Town Windows Trail, bringing colourful characters and fascinating stories from our town’s heritage to life. But there’s so much more to Renaissance Knaresborough!

And there’s plenty happening now too …

🐝 Buzzlines, our collaboration with Knaresborough in Bloom, is working towards creating 10 kilometres of pollinator pathways across the town - linking green spaces and habitats to support bees, butterflies and other essential pollinating insects.

One of the first transformations is already taking shape at the corner of Park Row and the High Street, where a large flowerbed has been turned into a haven for wildlife, as well as a lovely spot for people to stop, sit and take a breather 🌸🦋

An opportunity to support the new Harrogate Mumbler Welfare Hub at the Harrogate Round Table presents The Your Harrogate Radio Sray Bonfire and Fireworks on 7 November.

It's a great annual community event and our Help Out Harrogate volunteers are also looking forward to helping raise funds on the night for this year's charities Mind in Harrogate District and Harrogate Samaritans 💙 💚

Mumbler Welfare Hub at the Stray Bonfore- I need your help 🙏
For the first time ever this year I'm volunteering Mumbler to provide a Welfare Hub at the Stray bonfire alongside & to help out the fabulous organisers, The Harrogate District Round Table.

This brilliant community event is getting bigger & better every year, but increasingly I have noticed quite a few teenagers hanging around- (not always in a sober state!)
Last year there was a teenage girl in a bad way that I found laying on the ground at the end of the event, who had lost her friends. Fortunately with the help of the medics we were able to look after her & get her home safely to her family, however I hate the thought of anyone, (but particularly teenage girls) being in such a vulnerable situation and so I want to help.
As well as teenagers, every year in the dark there are always a few lost kids that we have to help reunite with their parents.
Anyway, it got me thinking that I could help ensure the event is safe for everyone Hence the Mumbler Welfare Hub throughout the event.

It will be a safe space for anyone who needs it- but to do this I need your help!

This is an idea straight out of my head, (so it is bound to evolve) but I'm putting a list together below so if you can help or know of someone who can, please do share this & ask them to get in touch with me- either comment below or drop me an email: [email protected]

Note- We won't be offering any medical care or serious incident support- they already have medics there & local police presence.

We are going to be there to offer a safe space for people to warm up, get some water, charge their phones and help find their mates/ call their parents.

💜 Any willing Mum volunteers on Saturday 7th November approximately 4:30pm- 9:30pm (sorry to be sexist on this one, but I want this to be a female team at the event) We can split this into shifts if needs be. You don't need any experience at all (I don't have any!) just a willingness to help out anyone and to lend your "Mum" skills to anyone who needs it.
💜 A pop up gazebo with sides or small marquee tent that we can borrow for the event.
💜 Help putting up & taking down the gazebo/tent before and after the event
💜 Any freshly washed hoodies/ warm kit that you don't want back (we've had freezing cold teenagers in the previous years!)
💜Any clean cozy blankets that you don't need back
💜 A few trays of bottled water
💜Anything else that you can think of that I haven't thought of.... I'm sure there is loads!
