Dementia Awareness at The Space

Today, we welcomed the lovely Lisa Berrett from Calderdale Dementia Hub, who delivered an informative and insightful talk on Dementia Awareness for some of our staff and volunteers.

We all found the session incredibly valuable and learned so much about dementia and how we can better understand and support those living with the condition.

A huge thank you to Lisa for taking the time to visit us and share her knowledge with our team!

❤️ “Brilliant, absolutely brilliant and I can’t thank you enough.”

After a hospital stay following a fall, an 85-year-old gentleman was supported by our Home from Hospital team to return home safely. We provided practical help, emotional support and reassurance, helping him and his family feel confident during the transition home. We also worked with the family to reduce the risk of future falls, giving everyone greater peace of mind.

Our Home from Hospital service is here to help older people settle safely back home after a stay in hospital.

Following a referral to our Information & Advice service, one local couple discovered they were entitled to benefits they didn't realise they could claim. Our advisor helped them secure around £75 extra per week in Pension Credit, plus a full Council Tax rebate and other valuable entitlements.

The client told us: "It's so complicated to find these things out when you don't go online."

🧶🎉 The Big Knit is officially here! 🎉🧶

Calling all local knitters, crochet enthusiasts, and knitting groups! We'd love for you to help us raise money for Age UK by knitting some of the famous little hats for this year's Big Knit Campaign.

Whether you'd like to get involved on your own or as part of a local knitting group, every hat knitted will help make a difference to older people in our community. 💙

To help you get started, we've put together supporter packs containing:
🧶 More information about the campaign
🧶 A selection of knitting patterns
🧶 Wool kindly donated by Calder Yarn and World of Wool

📦 Knitting groups: We'd be delighted to drop supporter packs off to your group. Simply get in touch with:
• Your address
• An ideal date and time for delivery
• The number of packs you'd like

🏢 Individual knitters: Supporter packs are also available to collect from our sites while stocks last.

📅 Hat return deadlines:
• First round of hats: 5th January 2027
• Second round of hats: 5th September 2027

Last campaign, our amazing knitters created a fantastic number of hats, and we're hoping to smash that total this year! So grab your needles, gather your friends, and let's make this our biggest and best Big Knit yet. 🧶
