The Prostate Project Giving men A BETTER CHANCE of beating Prostate Cancer About our Charity

The Prostate Project is a rapidly growing charity run by volunteers.

In the past 20 years we have raised over £8 million and helped the Royal Surrey County Hospital achieve ‘Centre of Excellence’ status in the treatment of prostate cancer. We support the Royal Surrey County Hospital, St Luke’s Cancer Centre and Frimley Park Hospital in their efforts to detect and treat prostate cancer. We have provided equipment, specialist nursing staff and run an active patient s

upport group. We pride ourselves in having administration costs of less than 5% – far below the average 20% lost to administration by most UK charities

In 2011, the Royal Surrey County Hospital asked us if we could raise £1.3m towards a new landmark Urology Centre. In 2013 they increased that figure to £2m. Thanks to the incredible support, we exceeded that amount and are now equal funding partners with the hospital having raised almost £3m. The Stokes Centre for Urology is now one of the leading Centres in the country, receiving referrals from around the world. Our research initiative, launched in 2006 at the University of Surrey, has grown to become the largest charity-funded prostate cancer research group in the UK. Currently 25 strong, the Prostate Project research team are producing results of international importance including the development of antibodies against targets on the surface of prostate cancers, the development of vaccines from the patient’s own immune cells and the use of a potential new marker (EN2) in urine to identify the presence of prostate cancer; the first breakthrough in diagnosis since the 30-year-old PSA blood test currently used to detect prostate cancer. They are currently investigating new techniques to identify and treat advanced prostate cancer using immunotherapy. Currently three quarters of men diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer die within five years. These, together with other clinical and research achievements by our hospital based team of consultants, specialist nurses and technicians have been internationally recognized and earned a reputation for excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. One of the elements, pivotal to their continued success, is a state of the art NHS Urology Centre and the funds we are raising will help make this a reality. Much of this work requires expensive clinical and laboratory trials to gain peer recognition and NICE(National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) approval – the ultimate goal. You can help us achieve this. Every contribution, no matter how small, is another step on the road to saving more of the 10,000 lives that are lost every year to prostate cancer. General enquiries:

Good luck to Miles Wade and Chris Russell, who begin their incredible 100-mile South Downs Way challenge TODAY!
For Miles, this challenge is particularly meaningful. In September 2025, he was diagnosed with high-risk, locally advanced stage 3 prostate cancer. Following seven months of intensive treatment, and with further treatment still ahead, he is taking on this epic walk from Eastbourne to Wi******er as a celebration of recovery, resilience, and the exceptional care he has received.
Joined by Chris, the pair will be walking from Eastbourne to Wi******er, raising funds to help The Prostate Project continue its work supporting prostate cancer diagnosis, treatment and research.
Please join us in wishing Miles and Chris the very best of luck. We'll be cheering them on every step of the way.

What a fantastic day at The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride at Hogs Back Brewery recently!
We were proud to have our Man Van there offering PSA blood tests and talking to men about prostate health as part of a truly incredible event.
This year’s Surrey Hills ride was record-breaking, with 1,402 riders registered, making it the largest Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride in the UK, Europe and North America, and joint second globally.
From the amazing bikes and stylish outfits to the brilliant atmosphere and community spirit, it was a special day from start to finish.
A huge thank you to Hogs Back Brewery for hosting such an incredible weekend, to all the organisers and volunteers, and especially to Rupert Thompson, Executive Chairman of Hogs Back Brewery and Patron of The Prostate Project, for his continued support of our work.
Thank you as well to everyone who stopped by our Man Van to say hello!

Prostate cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in the UK yet there is still no national screening programme.
Early diagnosis saves lives, and targeted screening for high-risk men could be an important first step towards protecting more men in the future.
Prostate Cancer Research has launched a parliamentary petition calling for action. If it reaches 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in Parliament.
Please take a moment to sign and share if you haven’t already:
