GUTS Our goal is to improve bowel cancer survival rates through more effective screening, detection and treatment, and by raising awareness of the disease.

GUTS is a charity based at the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford that aims to increase bowel cancer survival rates through improved screening, detection, care, treatment and research into the disease. GUTS funds a Family Colore**al Cancer Clinic (FCCC) based at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, which offers advice and screening to people at a high risk of developing bowel cancer. We fund equipment and facilities for to help improve the care and treatment of bowel cancer patients at the Royal Surrey and provide research grants for projects that aim to improve bowel cancer care, treatment and survival. GUTS continues to strive to raise awareness of the bowel cancer and ultimately save lives. We provide a unique service for the community but we need your help to both maintain this service and to spread awareness of this common cancer. As a registered charity, we rely solely on donations from you, our supporters, to continue our fight against bowel cancer. You don’t have to pick up a paintbrush to be part of Picture This! at Silent Pool.
From 3pm to 4pm on Wednesday 21st October, we’ll be opening up the finished artwork for public viewing and you get to help choose the People’s Choice winner.
Come along, have a look at what our artists have created and vote for the painting you’d most like to take home.
No artistic expertise required!

If you know someone who has recently been diagnosed with bowel cancer, please tell them about our Help in a Box.
Our boxes are FREE and can be sent anywhere in the UK. They contain useful information, practical items and a few comforting treats, including a copy of Dr Anisha Patel’s Everything you hoped you would never need to know about bowel cancer.

A date for your November diary!
We’ll be at the Combined Charities Christmas Fair in the historic Guildhall on Guildford High Street on Sunday 1st November, from 11am–4pm.
We’ll be there alongside lots of other local good causes, selling a selection of our own Christmas cards, decorations and gifts.
Entry is FREE, so pop in, say hello and perhaps get a little Christmas shopping done while supporting local charities.

We are so very sad to hear of the passing of Henry ‘Harry’ Rice, a long-time supporter and volunteer of GUTS.
Harry celebrated his 100th birthday earlier this year and was one of the few remaining D-Day veterans. In recent years, he became a familiar face in the national news, sharing his remarkable experiences with warmth, humour and charm.
He was a lovely man who gave so much of his time to GUTS and will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew him.
Our thoughts are with Harry’s family and friends. We were very lucky to have known him.

Did you know bowel cancer has several names?
Bowel cancer, colore**al cancer, colon cancer and re**al cancer – you may come across all of these terms.
In the UK, bowel cancer is the term most commonly used for cancer that starts in the large bowel. Depending on where it begins, it may also be called colon cancer or re**al cancer, while colore**al cancer is a term that covers both.
Whatever you call it, know what’s normal for you – and if you’re worried about any changes, get checked.

There's still time to see our Picture This! exhibition at Art & Grind on Guildford High Street, but you'll need to be quick as it finishes on Monday 12th October!
The exhibition features artwork created by more than 70 artists who took part in our first outdoor painting competition at Watts Gallery earlier this year.
Some of the paintings are also available to buy, with artists kindly donating some or all of the proceeds to GUTS Fighting Bowel Cancer. So if you're in Guildford over the weekend, do pop upstairs at Art & Grind and have a look!

Bowel cancer cases in people under 50 are rising, but we still don't fully understand why.
Researchers at King's College London and ZOE are looking for 250,000 people across the UK to take part in a new study to help find some answers.
Broadcaster Adele Roberts, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer at just 42, is helping to raise awareness.
It's a reminder that bowel cancer isn't just an older person's disease. Whatever your age, if you're worried about symptoms or changes in your bowel habits, please get checked.

The Picture This! exhibition is now open at Art & Grind on Guildford High Street.
All the artwork was created at our first Picture This! event at Watts Gallery Artists’ Village earlier this year, when more than 70 artists joined us for our plein air painting challenge.
It’s great to see so many of the finished pieces now hanging together in the gallery. Some are also available to buy, with artists kindly donating some or all of the proceeds to GUTS.
The exhibition runs until 12th October, so if you’re in Guildford this week, pop upstairs at Art & Grind and take a look!
And if it inspires you to have a go yourself, our next Picture This! is at Silent Pool on 21st October. There’s still time to sign up via our GUTS website:
