🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Kev Pickering 🌟

We’re delighted to shine a light on Kev, one of our incredible volunteers here at Recovery Partnership Gateshead 💜

Kev’s journey is one of strength, commitment and giving back. After coming into contact with our service in 2023, and with the support of family, friends and CGL, Kev has been in recovery since September 2024. He continues to attend sessions and use support throughout the week, showing real dedication to maintaining his goals.

Wanting to give back and support others on a similar journey, Kev became a volunteer in June. Kev shared that he hopes to support other addicts and their families, and loves being part of a team that helps people see that life can be calmer and so much better in recovery — something he truly lives and demonstrates every day.

We are so proud to have Kev as part of our team. After many conversations encouraging him to take the step into volunteering, it’s safe to say he has been an amazing addition! ✨

Kev brings such warmth to our reception areas — always smiling, speaking to everyone who walks through the door, and creating a space where people feel comfortable enough to open up. His natural ability to connect with others makes a real difference to so many people’s experiences.

Thank you, Kev, for your dedication, your time, and everything you give to support others 💜

🌟 Thank You to Our Incredible Volunteers & Ambassadors! 🌟

A huge thank you to all of our amazing volunteers and ambassadors who joined us on Monday for our Volunteer Appreciation Day 💙

We had such a fantastic time celebrating you and recognising the incredible difference you make to our service every single day. Your dedication, compassion, and commitment truly mean the world to us 🙌

A special shoutout to Kyla from Triage for joining us and delivering an amazing mindfulness session 🧘‍♀️✨ It was brilliant to spend time learning about confidence and meditation – thank you for sharing your knowledge and inspiring us all!

Afterwards, we tucked into a delicious buffet (and plenty of cake 🍰 of course!), before holding a small ceremony to congratulate each of our volunteers and ambassadors 👏

We finished the afternoon off with some games… not competitive or anything 😉🎉

Keep your eyes peeled for more photos from the day – we couldn’t squeeze it all into just one post!! 📸

Thank you again for everything you do 💙

🎉 Happy Volunteers’ Week! 🎉

This week, we’re proud to celebrate Volunteers’ Week—a time dedicated to recognising the incredible people who give their time, energy, and compassion to support others and strengthen our communities 💜

🌟 Why it matters:
Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Their kindness, commitment, and lived experience help change lives every single day—reminding us all that recovery is possible and no one has to face challenges alone.

💬 How you can get involved:
✅ Say thank you to someone who volunteers
✅ Share your own volunteering story—we’d love to hear it!
✅ Get involved in local events happening this week

🙏 To every volunteer—past, present, and future—thank you. You make a real and lasting difference, and we couldn’t do this without you.

🚨 DRUG ALERT : Illicit Pregabalin & Overdose Risk 🚨

We’re still seeing non-fatal overdoses linked to illicit pregabalin — both firsthand and reported among peers.

Recent alerts highlight:
⚠️ Deaths in Morecambe Bay involving metonitazene
⚠️ Spike in overdoses in Blackburn/Burnley linked to illicit pregabalin

🔍 Metonitazene (a nitazene) can be 200–500x stronger than morphine — even small amounts can be deadly.

Stay safer:
✅ Test before use (FREE nitazenes test strips available in service)
⬇️ Use less, go slow
🔄 Stagger use if with others
🚫 Avoid mixing with opioids, alcohol, or benzos
💊 Carry naloxone (FREE kits available in service – can also be posted if you can't get to our hub)

📘 Ask us about overdose prevention booklets.

Look out for each other. Small steps save lives.

This week is a very special one for us 💙

As we celebrate National Volunteers’ Week, we’re taking time to recognise and thank our incredible volunteers for the care, time and dedication they give to our service every single day.

Your support makes a meaningful difference to the people and communities we serve, and we simply couldn’t do what we do without you.
Whether it’s through a kind message, a celebration, or a moment of recognition—every thank you counts.

👀 Keep your eyes peeled throughout the week as we celebrate our volunteers and ambassadors with Recovery Connections.

To our volunteers, and to the colleagues who champion and support them—thank you. Together, we are making a real difference. 🙌
