☀️ Stay safe in the heat – harm minimisation matters more than ever!

We’re sharing this today as temperatures rise across the North East – even moderate heat can increase risk for people using drugs or alcohol 💛
🌡️ Local weather update:
• Today in Gateshead: around 25–27°C and sunny

Drug & alcohol use in hot weather increases risks:
⚠️ Alcohol dehydrates your body
⚠️ Some drugs raise body temperature or mask warning signs
⚠️ Heat + substances can increase risk of overdose or collapse
✅ Simple harm reduction steps:
💧 Drink water regularly (don’t wait until you’re thirsty)
🌳 Spend time in cool or shaded spaces
⚠️ Use less – effects can feel stronger in the heat
👥 Don’t use alone – have someone check in
🧴 Protect skin + avoid long periods in direct sun
🚨 Know the signs of heat exhaustion: dizziness, confusion, heavy sweating – seek help if symptoms don’t improve.
Looking after yourself = reducing harm 💛
