Week in, week out, thousands of volunteers across the country transform surplus food into healthy, delicious meals for anyone that needs them, no questions asked. Food poverty and loneliness are growing issues, both heightened by the recent pandemic. By offering a safe, welcoming space to enjoy a free meal and company, FoodCycle brings people from all backgrounds and walks of live together, improving mental wellbeing and strengthening community spirit. Proof that surplus is full of possibilities. 🍝🥦

This savory main started the day as unsold produce sitting in surplus boxes. Hours later, our brilliant kitchen volunteers turned it into a piping hot, wholesome dish ready for the community.

We don't plan the menu in advance, we mostly do not know what is arriving with us, until the day it arrives — we just save good food from waste and make magic happen.

Every single week, supermarket surplus that was destined to be thrown away gets rescued by our amazing teams.

With a bit of passion and a lot of creativity, our volunteers turn unwanted ingredients into delicious, warm community desserts like this.

Not only does it look delicious, but it’s a wonderful example of how we turn surplus ingredients into wholesome, nourishing meals and treats for our community.

The ultimate Ready Steady Cook challenge... but make it community! 🧑‍🍳✨

Take a peek at what came out of the kitchen at one of our North East projects recently:
🥣 Starter: Carrot, turnip and lentil soup
🍝 Main: Veg pasta bake with mozzarella and BBQ peanut topping
🍨 Dessert: Puréed pineapple and cream with watermelon and granola

Now, here’s the twist: every single ingredient here was destined for the bin as surplus food. But thanks to the incredible culinary magic (and serious Ready Steady Cook energy) of our volunteer chefs, it was transformed into this superb three-course feast! 🥕🥦🍉

If chopping vegetables or cooking isn't your thing, hosting is a fantastic, welcoming way to get involved.

Being a FoodCycle host is all about:

- Welcoming guests with a warm smile and making everyone feel at home.

- Chatting and building connections across the local community.

- Helping create a friendly, inclusive atmosphere where everyone can enjoy a hot meal together.

There’s no experience needed, and just like all our roles, there is no pressure or rigid commitment. Come along whenever your schedule allows—whether it's once a month or whenever you have a free hour.
