We’re looking for a Catering Coordinator to join the REfUSE staff team in Chester-le-Street. If you love cooking, are able to project-manage effectively and want to work with a volunteer team who are challenging the way we value food, this is the role for you. It offers kinder hours and much more flexibility than most hospitality jobs, a supportive, inclusive team, and the opportunity to spread the message of REfUSE across the County and region. 💚

£28,760 pro rata | Full-time | Tuesday–Saturday | Permanent

Applications to run a Winter/Christmas club are now open

Could your organisation help brighten the school holidays for children and young people in Gateshead?

We are now inviting applications from organisations interested in delivering activities as part of our Winter 2026 Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, Brighten the Day.

Brighten the Day provides exciting physical and creative activities, nutritious food, and enriching experiences for children and young people who receive ‘Targeted’ free school meals. The programme gives young people the opportunity to have fun, develop new skills, make friends, and create positive memories.

Taking part in HAF can also have a lasting impact on your organisation and the communities you support.

If you're passionate about providing high-quality activities and helping to make school holidays brighter for children and young people, we'd love to hear from you.

Celebrate autumn equinox at the Hop Garden!

🍎 AUTUMN EQUINOX AT THE HOP GARDEN 🍐

Join us as we celebrate the changing season, gather the garden’s harvest and imagine the next chapter of the Hop Garden together.

📅 Saturday 19 September
⏰ 10am–12 noon
📍 The Hop Garden

Come and:

🌿 Pick apples, pears, herbs and any ripe berries to take home
☕ Enjoy a cuppa made with herbs from the garden
🍂 Set intentions for the season ahead
💭 Share your ideas about what you would like to see happening at the Hop Garden

Together, we’ll set intentions for ourselves, our garden and our wider community as we enter the colder months.

Our beautiful heritage harvest includes:

🍎 Top row: James Grieve, Cox, Beauty of Bath, George Cave and White Melrose

🍏 Middle row: King of Pippins, an unknown heritage cooker, Catshead and Red Bramley

🍎 Bottom row: Katy, Grandpa Buxton, Sunset, an unknown cooker and a Hessle pear

The event is offered on a donation basis—please give whatever you can.

Come along, gather some of the harvest, share a warm drink and help us shape the future of this special community garden.
