Social value, environmental and social governance (ESG), corporate social responsibility (CSR). Call it what you like, but it's become as important as your bottom line. It's measurable and reportable, and it impacts decisions made by your potential investors, patrons, employees, and customers: all the groups that make your business what it is.
The message is simple. If you don't understand it and embrace social value/ESG/CSR, you WILL be left behind. The great news is, it's easy to do, and it's an investment, not a cost. And, if you have a voluntary, community or social enterprise (VCSE), you need to understand how to attract businesses and patrons to work with you. Because if you don't, another VCSE will!
