We had lots of pumpkin 🎃 fun at the care home today!

We took our pumpkins along with our golf teas and used our fine motor skills to hammer the golf teas into the pumpkins 🎃 We also had cork boards, wooden shapes and pins 📌 . Again we used our fine motor skills to hammer the pins into the wooden shapes to create pictures.

Fine motor✋🏾 skills are the small movements children make using their hands, fingers and wrists. Developing these skills is important in early years as they support children's independence, confidence and readiness for future learning.

Our friends from the care home enjoyed taken part in our activity today! 🎃 🔨

We look forward to seeing them all again next week!😃

We enjoyed a trip to the woods this week🪵🪾🍁🌲

Taking children to the woods provides opportunities for outdoor learning. Woodland experiences encourage children to explore, discover and develop a deeper understanding of the natural environment. Children can investigate nature, discover insects, observe wildlife and explore their 🐞🕸️🕷️surroundings.Walking on uneven ground, climbing, balancing and navigating natural obstacles develops gross motor skills.

At the woods we were busy....

🪵 climbing on the fallen trees
🐞 making bug hotels
🔥 making pretend campfires
🏡 hiding in the stick house
✏️ mark making in the soil

We had a very spooky Halloween party at nursey yesterday!🎃👻

There we're witches 🧙🏻‍♀️ pumpkins 🎃 ghosts 👻 cats 🐈‍⬛ spiders 🕷️

We did Halloween dancing and games! We had our inflatable witches hats and hoops to hoop the hoops onto the hats!We had Halloween tattoos AND we did a pumpkin hunt! We each got to take a pumpkin home to carve!We had a very busy party!🎃👻

We had so much spooky 👻 fun today at the care home today!

We decided to dress up spooky 👻 and wear our Halloween 🎃 costumes.

We took our inflatable witches 🧙🏻‍♀️ hats and hoops to hoop the hoops onto the hats. This was great for our hand and eye coordination. We then gave all our friends a turn.

After, we did some Halloween colouring in pictures followed by a story. We had Room on the Broom 🧹 story and had our snack while we listened 📖

We had the best time on our trip to Fedderate woods today!!🎃🎃

The cold did not stop us from having fun!!🎃🎃

From playing in the park to having hot chocolate ☕️ and smores by the camp fire 🔥 then finding the fairies 🧚🏻‍♀️ and leaving them treasure and finally pumpkins 🎃 picking, we've had a very busy day! Great day spent at Fedderate Woods for our last day of term.

We've had a fantastic Halloween Art & Craft and Messy play stay and play session this afternoon🎃👻

We invited all our parent/carers along to join in the spooky fun!

We had spooky Halloween orange and black home made play dough with spooky spiders, googly eyes, pipe cleaners and Halloween cutters 🕸️🕷️👻🎃

We had a messy tray with black and red spaghetti which was cold and slimey to touch. There was a mix of eye balls, creep crawlies and rose petals mixed in 👁️ 🌹 🕷️

We had a big spiders web with a big spider in the middle. We helped the spider catch flies by wrapping the wool around the fly on the web 🪰🕷️🕸️

We were sewing with hessian and black wool to make spider webs🕸️🕷️

We had a colouring in table, were we could choose a colouring picture to colour in 🎃🕷️👻🖍️

We had a painting table we're we had bubble paint to make bubbling cauldrons 💀👻🎃 🫧

We've had a very busy afternoon being creative and curious while dev our fine motor skills ✋🏻✋🏾

👀 🤩
At Gordon Park ELC we like to support and promote our children's imaginative and creative learning with 'loose parts' play.

Loose parts play involves open‑ended materials that children can move, combine and redesign. These are natural, recycled, or household items.

Loose parts play supports children's creativity, problem solving skills, motor skills, language development, team building skills and much more.

Today our loose parts became:
- a tractor 🚜 with a lum for the smoke and a pedal to make it go
- a hamster wheel 🐹 and stone hamsters inside
- fire hoses to put out fires 🔥
- a car 🚘️ to pull each other around in
- a work bench 🛠️ for our tools
- a 🏑 hockey stick and an obstacle course...

The ideas were endless! Such fun 😁
