The Open Door Edinburgh The Open Door Edinburgh provides support to older people, those living with dementia, poor health or mobility and those who care for them.

Our Day Services support people at our community hub in Morningside. “I have a dream …to turn loneliness into fellowship, isolation into recognition …and bridge the gap between church and community”. (Peggy Hunter – founder of the Open Door 1982)

And so began this ecumenical venture that has been a presence in the heart of Morningside, Edinburgh for over 32 years. The Open Door continue to be sup

ported by all our local churches, however since we promote inclusivity, our door truly is open to anyone. Over the years, as services have grown so have the number of staff and volunteers needed to provide them. Currently we have 6 staff and are supported by over 70 volunteers.

​Our specialist Day Care Service provides a vibrant, welcoming environment where everything we do is tailored to the individual. By delivering compassionate care and meaningful engagement, our goal is to enhance daily life and help people stay comfortably in their own homes for as long as possible.

​We offer a rich, varied programme of person-centred
⭐​Gentle physical exercises
⭐​Arts, crafts, and reminiscence work
⭐​Interactive music sessions
⭐Outings to local places of interest

​To ensure our service reaches those who need it most, we offer both subsidised and self-funded places.

​How to Get in Touch
​If you are considering Day Care for yourself or a loved one, self-funded places are available for anyone aged 65+ with no referral required. Simply contact our team directly to learn more:

We are delighted to announce that our next Monthly Pop-Up Café will be taking place tomorrow , Wednesday, August 12th.

​This month, all proceeds from the café will go directly toward supporting our vital transport costs. Every cup of coffee purchased and every treat enjoyed helps us keep our community connected and mobile, ensuring that those who rely on our services can continue to access them safely.

​Whether you are looking to catch up with friends, grab a quick takeaway, or simply support a great cause, we would be pleased to welcome you.

A huge thank you to the S4 pupils at George Watson’s College and the Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI)!

Over the past 10 months, pupils have been learning about the incredible work happening across our local communities, researching and meeting charities before advocating for a cause they felt passionate about.

We were so touched to have The Open Door chosen by one of the teams, and incredibly proud that their presentation helped secure a £500 runner-up donation for our charity! 🥹👏

A huge well done and thank you to the pupils for the time, thought and effort they put into learning about The Open Door and sharing the importance of the work we do.

This £500 will go directly towards supporting our service and helping us continue to provide a welcoming, meaningful and supportive community for our members. 💛

Thank you to everyone at George Watson’s College and YPI for supporting local charities and encouraging the next generation to make a difference in their communities.

Here's to a week full of joy at The Open Door! 🎂🎨✨

​Last week was an extra special one as we celebrated the birthday of our fantastic volunteer, Ann! She was thoroughly spoiled with cake (as she rightly should be!).

​Our groups kept the vibrant energy going all week long with an afternoon of painting and plenty of dancing.
