Girlguiding Edinburgh

Girlguiding Edinburgh Official account of Girlguiding Edinburgh. We support 5,000 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, & Rangers. We build girls' confidence and raise their aspirations.

Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK. We give them the chance to discover their full potential and encourage them to be a powerful force for good. We give them a space to have fun. What makes guiding special? We are for all girls:

Whatever their background, faith, or circumstances, we offer fun, exciting activities and the chance to make lifelong friends. We give

girls their own space:

They can be themselves and share the experience of growing up as a girl in today's world, while learning about sensitive issues affecting their peers around the world. We give girls a voice:

They gain confidence, skills, and information necessary to make informed decisions and speak out and take positive action to improve their lives and the lives of others. We change as the lives of girls change:

We listen and constantly evolve and adapt what we offer them without losing what makes us uniquely us.

106thA Brownies have recently been working on their Wayfarer badge. They worked with real compasses, created whiteboard compasses and discovered how to use natural indicators like shadows and tree growth to find NESW. Then they used a local map to practice describing directions from Murrayfield Stadium to somewhere else. They finished their evening off by trying to map a playpark.

In celebration of we're spotlighting our members in various roles across the city.

Meet Lorna, one of our leaders who returned to Guiding last year after a long break.
"I volunteer to give back to my community, to give my life balance and to give girls the wide variety of experiences and opportunities I once enjoyed as a Brownie and Guide. I work full time as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and enjoy an equally busy personal and family life but I constantly read about “we have no sense of community these days”. I feel strongly that we should all play a part in giving to our own communities using any skills we may have or are yet to discover."

In celebration of we're spotlighting our members in various roles across the city.

Meet Fiona, one of our mentors and a Brownie leader in South Queensferry.

“The reason I volunteer for Girlguiding is that when I was growing up, Girlguiding was somewhere I didn't need to be classed as different, and I was accepted for who I was. When I am volunteering I feel inspired to encourage the girls to be who they what and have experiences that matter to them and I try to offer them as many of the experiences that I had as a Brownie and Guide that made me to want to share these through volunteering. The skills I have developed through my time in Girlguiding has strengthened my skills which I use when volunteering in my local community."

Meet Zoe, one of our Young Leaders.

“I volunteer because I enjoy getting to watch the girls grow and develop skills they learn in Brownies as well as teaching the girls about our world and running fun games with them. I signed up to volunteer with Girlguiding Edinburgh because I am interested in becoming a teacher when I am older. Going to Brownies helps me gain experience to prepare me for this."
