Exploring how to be more sustainable in using water, smarter in managing it, and helping everyone to be 'flood ready'. Blue Heart is a flood mitigation project with a community focus. We've had hot, dry weather for so long that the idea of rain can be very appealing. But rain after long periods of dry weather can be dangerous. It runs straight off the baked earth, ending up as potential surface water flooding (aka flash flooding).

There are a few things you can do to be prepared...

1. check the weather forecast so you know if rain is on the way.
2. empty your waterbutt (if there's anything left in it) so it can collect rainwater from the roof, reducing the risk of drains becoming overwhelmed.
3. check your gutters to make sure rain can flow freely away from the roof.
4. check the drains on your street for blockages. If it's safe to do so, try to clear any that are blocked with leaves and litter. If it isn't safe to clear it yourself, inform the Council.
