Our first public event of the year, a lunchtime recital at Bristol Cathedral and it was wonderful to sing to such an appreciative audience in a full cathedral. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and were delighted to receive a prolonged standing ovation. A few photos, courtesy of Christine Wetton, posted below.

Well folks, it's very nearly Annual Concert time and our guest artiste this year is Bruce Davies, Principal Cornet player for the Wotton Silver Band. Once heard, never forgotten. He's that good!

Bruce began playing the cornet as a child in North Yorkshire, performing with several local bands including the Rowntree’s (Shepherds) Brass Band in York. He moved to Gloucestershire 20 years ago to work in the nuclear power industry and has held key positions with Wotton Silver Band, performing as both Soprano Cornet and Principal Cornet. This period included the band’s impressive rise from the Third to the First Section of the National Brass Band Championships—progressing through leagues much like football clubs.

Alongside performing, Bruce has contributed significantly to musical leadership. He spent a decade as chair of Wotton Silver Band, ran a learners’ brass band in Cam, and organised workshops for young brass players in Wotton, Cam, and Dursley through the Cotswold Edge Brass Festival. Now with a young family, Bruce’s musical activities are naturally more limited, but he is delighted to be making music with the Dursley Male Voice Choir.
