✅Successful AGM Last Night 3rd July. Thank you to those who attended and those with us in spirit.

💚OUR YOUNG PEOPLE SUPPORTED BY OUR VOLUNTEERS ARE AMAZING!

Trustee Board headlines:

🟢Our wonderful team of volunteers always positive... find ways to deliver for our young people whilst gaining much personally too
🟠Financial, volunteer numbers and building challenges remain... as always!
🔴Major plans for a 21st Century Scout HQ have stalled... we must focus on making sure our faithful old HQ remains safe

Chair's closing address had 3 key requests:

I hope the successes are recognised and the challenges acknowledged so I will finish by asking three things to ensure the future of 1st Cam...

➡️ If not already, be a volunteer here and encourage others to do the same so the programme thrives and develops
➡️ Be prepared to do what you can to ensure the hut stays standing and is as an attractive and safe base-camp that it can be
and finally
➡️ Step forward to help with fundraising to enable improvements and equipment replacements now and when we hopefully get back to plans for the future

The Scouts - Preparing young people with skills for life

Hi all,

I write with a sad update which I am hopeful you can help turn around.

I want to be very open and honest with you. We are struggling and we need help.

Due to personal circumstances we have lost 3 members of our Thursday Beaver team recently, and quickly. We have managed to find one volunteer interested in helping but this is not enough to keep the section going. We need more than parent helpers, we need volunteers who can offer regular commitment, help and support with not only running the section evenings and events, but the planning and admin that goes behind it, as well as being willing to undertake (mostly) online, free training.

The closure of one section will impact the other sections - there will be less places for the Squirrels to move to, the waiting list will get longer, there won't be as many Cubs and therefore not as many Scouts which again could lead to more closures within 1st Cam. We can limp through for the rest of this term pulling on help from volunteers who are already giving so much to their own sections, but from September this becomes a real problem which we will need a fix for.

I know everyone is very busy, and work and family commitments do hinder being able to offer help, but I wanted to reassure you that it does, and can work. I will also absolutely promise you that at 1st Cam your family, and your health, are the most important things, they come first and if helping becomes a struggle, or you need to move things around, we will support you with that. The reward we, as a team, get from seeing the enjoyment and development of our young people is not something you can easily buy..... it's truly magical and makes all the hard work worth it. We also have irreplaceable friendships as a team which offers us support, adventure and laughter and happiness outside of Scouting. I know it's sounds cheesy but it's true.

It’s that time of year again!

Please come and join us for our Sausage Sizzle and AGM!

Friday 3rd July 6- 7.30pm at the Scout hut on Everlands Road!

Everyone is welcome - sausages provided! Light refreshments will also be available, please feel free to bring your own also.
