GL11 Community Hub

GL11 Community Hub A place to belong, a hub for action. GL11 Community Hub

Welcome to the official page of the GL11 Community Hub based in Cam, Gloucestershire.

We believe we are always stronger together; our welcoming community hub is a place where we can all belong, have fun, and shape the future of Cam and Dursley. The Hub is a hidden gem tucked away on the edge of Fairmead in Cam. Vibrant, welcoming and just a little bit quirky, the Hub is at the heart of the local community. Here for you with practical and emotional support, information, friendship a

nd kindness, both inside our building, at other venues, online and across our community. Our activities change and adapt to what is needed within the
community. Our support network is in place for any further lockdown restrictions and we are getting our sessions up and running again.

We had a nice surprise a couple of weeks ago, receiving a very generous donation of dog food from the lovely folks at Elm View Kennels and Cattery. There are so many benefits to having a pet in your life, yet according to the RSPCA three-quarters of pet owners say that it's more expensive to look after their pets now than it was 12 months ago. Being able to offer pet food in our Community Pantry helps reduce some of the anxiety of meeting those costs, enabling pantry users to get more enjoyment from having a four-legged companion in their lives. A huge thank you to the team at Elm View for helping to make this happen!

Our Saturday morning peer to peer support group for parents and carers of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) starts up again this week. Talk through your experiences, ask questions and be around others in the same boat as part of our completely non-judgemental and growing community of people navigating the SEND world. Join us from 9:30 - 11am here at GL11 Community Hub on the first Saturday of every month.

Our 4-week PEEP course is a stay and play with a difference, exploring the learning opportunities available in everyday life. It runs on Wednesdays from 9:30 - 10:30am starting 9 September.

Both take place here at GL11 and both are free! Email [email protected] for more details and to book.

📢 Help us keep the Community Swap Shed open 📢

We love the Community Swap Shed and we want it to continue to be a resource for the whole community, but in order to do that we need your help.

When we started the Shed we hoped that people would come along with a few items they'd love for someone else to use, leave them on the shelves in a suitable place, and maybe take a look and see if there was anything they could take home themselves. Recently, however, we've had bulky items placed outside the shed, soiled clothing, and large quantities of things left in bags for other people to sort out. Unfortunately this takes time for staff and volunteers to resolve and, where we have to dispose of inappropriate items, can cost us money that would be better spent elsewhere.

We do have some hard and fast rules for the Community Swap Shed which are displayed on the door (no bulky items, no clothes, no bedding, no broken or dirty items and no food) but we also ask that you only donate items which you'd be pleased to find in the Shed. That way we can keep on opening it, so you can find a new favourite book, a useful kitchen utensil, art supplies to get you crafting, or some other wonderful thing that a neighbour has donated. Thank you for your help.
