GL11 Community Hub

GL11 Community Hub A place to belong, a hub for action. GL11 Community Hub

Welcome to the official page of the GL11 Community Hub based in Cam, Gloucestershire.

We believe we are always stronger together; our welcoming community hub is a place where we can all belong, have fun, and shape the future of Cam and Dursley. The Hub is a hidden gem tucked away on the edge of Fairmead in Cam. Vibrant, welcoming and just a little bit quirky, the Hub is at the heart of the local community. Here for you with practical and emotional support, information, friendship a

nd kindness, both inside our building, at other venues, online and across our community. Our activities change and adapt to what is needed within the
community. Our support network is in place for any further lockdown restrictions and we are getting our sessions up and running again.

It's Thank You Thursday and because it's Volunteers' Week we want to celebrate our GL11 volunteers, all 93 of them! Here's a little about what six of them get up to in an average week, but really this is just scratching the surface. From helping in the kitchen to gardening, and from supporting families to assisting shoppers in the Pantry, volunteers are absolutely at the heart of GL11 Community Hub. A huge thank you to everyone who gives up their time.

We're always keen to welcome new volunteers, if you'd like to join them. We encourage potential volunteers to fill in an online expression of interest form and then we take care to match your skills and interests with areas where you can make a difference. Just as an idea of what you could be doing, at the moment we'd particularly like to find volunteers to help lead our Monday Walking Group, support the development of a new Men's Shed and Women's Shed group, and to assist on a Wednesday as a signposter enabling people to access GL11 activities and services. You can find our expression of interest form on our website at https://www.gl11.org.uk/volunteering.

Ah, the dreaded glut of produce. Gardeners and growers have all been there, what to do when you have 20 courgettes all ready at the same time?! Our new workshops in partnership with Wild Acres CIC will look at turning this excess into something that will keep you happy and well-fed into the next growing season. We'll be making a range of jams, chutneys and ferments and whilst equipment and ingredients will be provided, we're also keen that you bring in your own surplus produce for inspiration.

We're calling this Förädling, a Swedish term that refers to the process of enhancing or processing goods (usually food) to create something that is of greater quality than the original ingredient. Our first Förädling session will be next Tuesday 16 June (please note change of date), from 2 - 4pm, here at GL11 Community Hub and then every other week after that. To book your free space, please email [email protected].

P.S. The photo is the start of a batch of elderflower cordial!

We're really excited to announce that BBC Gloucestershire will be broadcasting live from GL11 Community Hub next Friday morning! The Wake Up Call is all about your head, your heart, your health and having the conversations you might sometimes shy away from. Alongside the show, there'll be a chance to come along and meet the experts, ask your health questions, get your blood pressure checked, and even find out how to use the NHS app. Join us in the Community Room at GL11 from 8am - 11am, or catch the show with a cuppa at home from 6am.

It's Thank You Thursday, the time of the week when we celebrate the contributions that so many different people and organisations make to the life of GL11 Community Hub. Today we're saying a massive thank you to DRC - More Than a Running Club for their hugely generous £700 donation!

We're not exaggerating when we say that nothing at GL11 would happen without the support of the whole community. If your club or society would like to raise funds to support the community in Cam and Dursley, do get in touch.
