We are delighted to announce that Dundee's Community Covid Memorial is officially open 🌸
The commemorative memorial garden, located on the corner of Caird Avenue, was co-created by over 200 local people who contributed their experiences of the Covid pandemic and their ideas for this memorial 💬
The memorial garden was officially opened by Councillor Mark Flynn Dundee City Council and community participant, Estelle Coulthard during an opening ceremony held yesterday to recognise the community co-created memorial and to honour those affected by the pandemic.
🥬 The garden has been designed as a lasting place of reflection and connection, with access to nature and greenspace highlighted as vital to wellbeing.
The winding paths represent the emotional twists and turns experienced by the community during the pandemic, and the plants provide colour, scent and symbolic associations of remembrance, grief and hope 🌻
This memorial garden is the result of Dundee’s participation in the national Remembering Together project funded by The Scottish Government and delivered by Greenspace Scotland. The Scotland wide programme was a community co-creation project that offered space for people to come together with others to share and process what Covid meant, and continues to mean, for communities across the country.
💛 We would like to thank each member of the community that contributed their experiences and ideas for Dundee’s Community Covid Memorial, and the designers who used thoughtful and collaborative approaches to bring this co-created idea to life.
