Pets can play a valuable role in helping children in care feel safe, settled and connected. For many young people, forming a bond with a pet can be the first step towards building attachments with their foster family.

One of the biggest myths about fostering is that you need previous childcare experience.

The truth? You don't.

At Fostering People, it's your personal qualities, life experience and willingness to make a difference that matter most. We provide comprehensive training before you're approved and ongoing support throughout your fostering journey, so you'll never be expected to do it alone.
While careers such as teaching, nursing, social work or youth work can provide transferable skills, they're by no means essential. Patience, empathy, resilience and a caring nature can come from all walks of life.

Many people are surprised to learn that fostering can work alongside a career in the NHS. In fact, some of our foster parents continue to work in healthcare while providing a stable and supportive home for children.

Nurses and other NHS professionals often bring valuable skills to fostering, including empathy, resilience, patience, and the ability to stay calm in challenging situations.

If you're passionate about caring for others, fostering could be a rewarding way to make a difference beyond your day job.

Keeping siblings together in foster care can make a huge difference. During a time of uncertainty, having a brother or sister by their side can provide comfort, stability and a sense of familiarity. 💙

If you're considering fostering siblings, here's what you'll need:
• 🏡 Space – Enough room to give each child the space they need to feel safe and settled.
• ⏰ Time – To support each child's individual needs, from school runs and appointments to quality one-to-one time.
• 💙 Patience – Every child processes trauma differently, and sibling relationships can be complex.
• 🤝 Emotional availability – To support more than one child through their experiences while helping them build healthy relationships.
