πŸ’™ Fostering was never meant to be done alone.

Every fostering journey has its challenges, but having local support can make all the difference. From support groups and community events to people who truly understand the realities of fostering, a strong support network helps make the difficult days feel easier and the good days even more rewarding.

Being part of a local fostering community means having people who know you, understand your family, and are invested in helping you thrive.

Because the right support doesn't just help you get through the journey. It helps you grow with confidence every step of the way.

πŸ’™ Many children in care have experienced trauma. Understanding that trauma can make a life-changing difference.

At Fostering People, we're committed to a trauma-informed approach that helps children feel safe, understood, and supported as they begin to heal from adverse childhood experiences.

This means looking beyond behaviour, understanding triggers, building trust through approaches such as PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy), and creating stable, nurturing homes where children can thrive.

It's also why we provide trauma-informed training, dedicated support, specialist guidance, and a strong fostering community to help foster parents support children every step of the way.

One of the biggest myths about fostering is that you need previous childcare experience.

The truth? You don't.

At Fostering People, it's your personal qualities, life experience and willingness to make a difference that matter most. We provide comprehensive training before you're approved and ongoing support throughout your fostering journey, so you'll never be expected to do it alone.
While careers such as teaching, nursing, social work or youth work can provide transferable skills, they're by no means essential. Patience, empathy, resilience and a caring nature can come from all walks of life.

Many people are surprised to learn that fostering can work alongside a career in the NHS. In fact, some of our foster parents continue to work in healthcare while providing a stable and supportive home for children.

Nurses and other NHS professionals often bring valuable skills to fostering, including empathy, resilience, patience, and the ability to stay calm in challenging situations.

If you're passionate about caring for others, fostering could be a rewarding way to make a difference beyond your day job.

Keeping siblings together in foster care can make a huge difference. During a time of uncertainty, having a brother or sister by their side can provide comfort, stability and a sense of familiarity. πŸ’™

If you're considering fostering siblings, here's what you'll need:
β€’ 🏑 Space – Enough room to give each child the space they need to feel safe and settled.
β€’ ⏰ Time – To support each child's individual needs, from school runs and appointments to quality one-to-one time.
β€’ πŸ’™ Patience – Every child processes trauma differently, and sibling relationships can be complex.
β€’ 🀝 Emotional availability – To support more than one child through their experiences while helping them build healthy relationships.

At Fostering People, we'll be with you every step of the way, providing the training, guidance and ongoing support you need to help sibling groups thrive.
