Dundee Salvation Army

Dundee Salvation Army Dundee Corps - 'like' us for up to date information on events, plus pictures from the past! In 1878 The Christian Mission was renamed The Salvation Army.

Since The Salvation Army was born on the streets of the East End of London in 1865, we have gone from strength to strength – carrying on the commitment of our founders to serve God and to serve suffering humanity by fighting against social injustice. As military terminology became more commonplace, Booth became known as the 'General', a suitable shortening of the title of 'General Superintendent'

that he held as the head of The Christian Mission. A 'Deed of Constitution' outlining his duties and responsibilities, which included the power to appoint a successor, was drawn up. Mission station preachers were given the rank of Captain and uniforms suitable to the ranks followed. A military discipline governed the lives of the officers. Writing in 'The Salvationist' in 1879 Booth summed up the purpose of the Army in the following simple but striking way: "We are a salvation people - this is our specialty - getting saved and keeping saved, and then getting somebody else saved, and then getting saved ourselves more and more until full salvation on earth makes the heaven within, which is finally perfected by the full salvation without, on the other side of the river." The Salvation Army is the largest provider of social care in the UK today, after the government. The work started in the 1880s and continues to grow and develop in a range of areas including homelessness, addiction services and anti human trafficking. Music forms an integral part of Salvation Army worship and evangelism. Bands and songster brigades are an important part of church life and public events with the brass band as the most recognised feature of Salvation Army music.

Food For thought this week :

⚽️ More Than a Game ⚽️

As football captures the attention of millions, one video really made me stop and think.

It showed members of the Curaçao national team praying together, worshipping, singing about God’s goodness, and openly sharing their faith. Then, after their match, players from both teams came together in prayer.

What a powerful witness.

In a world that celebrates trophies, fame and success, these players used their platform to point people towards Jesus.

It left me with a simple question:

If people watched my life as closely as they watch footballers, would they see Jesus?

Matches end. Trophies gather dust. The excitement fades.

But a life lived for Christ leaves an impact that lasts forever.

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16

Football can unite people for a match.

Jesus unites people for eternity. ✝️⚽

🌟 The Goodness of God 🌟

What a wonderful morning of worship, praise and fellowship we shared together at Dundee Salvation Army today.
Our meeting focused on The Goodness of God, with our Bible reading taken from Romans 8:18–39.

Many of us will remember being told as children to "be good". Usually, it was in the hope of earning approval, a reward or perhaps even a gold star.

But God's goodness isn't like that. God is not good because circumstances are good. God is not good because we are good.
God is good because that is who He is. No matter what season we find ourselves in, His goodness remains unchanged.

➡️ When life is going well, God is good.

➡️ When life throws us a curveball, God is good.

➡️ When we fail, God is good.

➡️ When others let us down, God is still good.

His goodness is the anchor of our faith and the foundation of our journey with Him.

Even in hardship, uncertainty and waiting, God's goodness is there. Sometimes we don't see it immediately, but often we can look back and recognise that He was carrying us all along.

In a world that can feel confused and uncertain, God's goodness guides us, softens our hearts, strengthens our communities and draws us closer to Him.

So where does God's goodness lead us?

Not to a gold star. Not to a reward for good behaviour. It leads us to Jesus.

The greatest display of God's goodness was at Calvary, where Christ paid the price for us. Through Him we are forgiven, made new and sustained by His grace every day.

💭 The challenge for this week:

Stop living as though you're trying to earn God's approval.

Instead, live in the confidence of His goodness, His grace and His faithfulness.

As we sang together this morning:

🎵 And all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God 🎵

May we sing it loudly, live it boldly and share it faithfully, so that others may come to know the goodness of God for themselves.

❤️ God is good. Always has been. Always will be.

🌊👣 Food for Thought this Week:

I want to take you to a beach for a moment. Maybe it’s Broughty Ferry, St Andrews, or somewhere else around the beautiful coastline of the UK.

Picture yourself walking along the shoreline, leaving footprints in the sand. For a while they are clear to see, marking every step you’ve taken. Then the waves roll in and quietly wash them away.

It made me think about how often we hold on to things that God has already forgiven, healed, or taken from us. Past mistakes. Past hurts. Past regrets.

The footprints disappear, but the journey remains. The lessons stay. The growth stays. God’s faithfulness stays.

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” — Psalm 103:12

Maybe today is the day to stop looking behind and start walking forward.

🌊✝️ What footprints are you still holding on to that God has already washed away?

❤️ Jesus Loves Me: A Timeless Truth ❤️

Today at Dundee Salvation Army, we gathered to celebrate one of the most precious and enduring truths of the Christian faith: that Jesus loves us. Through worship, praise, fellowship and reflection, we were reminded of the depth, certainty and personal nature of God's love for each one of us.

Throughout May, we have been journeying through our series "This Is My Story, This Is My Song", where members of our congregation have had the opportunity to share their testimony through a song that holds special meaning for them. It has been a real blessing to hear how God has been at work in people's lives and to get to know one another more deeply through these personal stories of faith. These testimonies have encouraged, challenged and uplifted us as we celebrate God's faithfulness together.

Today's song was the much-loved hymn "Jesus Loves Me". While often thought of as a children's song, its simple words contain some of the deepest truths of the Christian faith. The meeting was centred around the message of this hymn, with our Bible reading taken from 1 John 4:7–21, which reminds us that God is love and that we love because He first loved us.

As we reflected on the words of Jesus Loves Me, we considered three important truths:

❤️ God's love is personal – "Jesus loves me, this I know." These words remind us that we are not simply part of a crowd. We are known, valued and loved individually by Jesus.

📖 God's love is revealed in Scripture – "For the Bible tells me so." Our confidence in God's love is not based on feelings alone, but on the truth of His Word.

👶 Childlike faith matters – "Little ones to Him belong." Children have an incredible ability to trust. As Christians, we are called to place the same wholehearted trust in Jesus, believing His promises and following Him faithfully.

We also reflected on the final verse of the hymn, which points us towards the hope we have in Christ:

"Jesus loves me! He will stay, close beside me all the way; if I love Him, when I die, He will take me home on high."

What a comforting reminder that Jesus walks with us through every season of life and that His love extends beyond this life into eternity. This is the glorious hope that we have as Christians.

Sometimes the simplest songs carry the greatest truths. Today we were reminded that Jesus' love is real, personal and unchanging; that faith is built on the truth of God's Word; and that our response should be one of trust, obedience and devotion.

As we begin a new week, may we hold on to this timeless truth:

Jesus loves me, this I know.

🙏 We pray that you will know the depth of God's love for you this week, experience His presence beside you, and find peace in walking closely with Him.
