🌿 What does Forest School actually look like?

There isn’t one fixed answer — and that’s part of what makes it so special.

It can look like building dens, lighting fires, preparing food, using tools, making with natural materials, exploring the woodland or simply following an idea and seeing where it leads.

Forest School gives children the time and freedom to learn through play, curiosity and hands-on experience. The sessions are child-led, allowing everyone to take part in their own way and at their own pace.

Along the way, children can build confidence, creativity, independence and resilience, while developing a deeper connection with nature and the world around them.

We run Forest School sessions throughout the week for children aged 5+, including a separate group for ages 11+.

We’ve put all our regular sessions together in one place, so you can easily see what’s happening throughout the week.

From Herbal Mini Explorers for toddlers on Monday mornings to our different Forest School groups running from Wednesday to Friday, there are plenty of opportunities to play, create, explore and connect with nature.

Our new Wild & Well sessions will also run every Saturday from October, bringing together herbalism, craft, bushcraft, forest bathing and creative wellbeing.

🌿 Spaces available for Herbal Mini Explorers 🌿

Our Monday morning toddler group is a gentle, playful way for little ones to explore nature, herbs and the outdoors through sensory activities, making, discovering and time at the Wild Playground.
Sessions are led by herbalist Leila Mayne and run every Monday from 9:30–11am.

£8 per session
£7 per session when booking a 6-week block

Come along to our new toddler group with our highly qualified and knowledgeable herbalist Leila.

What to expect?

Learn, discover and explore a new herb each week through the senses and play. A chance to adults to socialise in the outdoors and children to play in the woodlands, refreshments provided.

We at Nest Nurturing Futures CIC had a lot of interest for forest school in the last school year but a full day on wednesday so we opened up a new date on Thursdays one over in lockerbie and one at the wild playground in dumfries. We've had a few sign up but could do with more to make it sustainable. If any one is interested you can go to our website for more details then fill out a booking form. It's £15 per session per kid but we do offer concession prices for those who need it.

Our free community days! For going forward instead of making them monthly (some months are just too hectic!) I have instead based them around the wheel of the year celebrations! So they will be around 6-7 weeks apart!

With it being a celebration too I have planned a small seasonal activity for each session!
