Nithraid Nithraid is an annual River Festival and Boat Race from Glencaple to Dumfries. Hosted by EcoArt This years Nithraid will be held on Saturday, 13st August 2022.

Come down to the River Nith in Dumfries and be part of something unique and special to the toon: the Stove’s eighth staging of Nithraid, a fun family event that takes place on and around the river. Nithraid is a celebration of the town’s long relationship with its river, highlighting the way the Nith connected Dumfries to the rest of the world through trade, goods (including coos) and sail power.

More details at www.thestove.org/nithraid, including how to take part if you want to enter the races. Nithraid is created and produced by The Stove Network and is part of the groups mission to make creative opportunities for local people to be involved in the future of Dumfries.

Nithraid 2026 - that was spectacular! 🎉🌊

What an incredible Nithraid we had! From Glencaple all the way into Dumfries, it was brilliant to see so many of you out along the River Nith, getting involved, cheering from the banks and enjoying everything the day had to offer.

🌿 Mill Green was buzzing from start to finish, with creative activities, workshops, food, music and plenty of river-inspired fun. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a special celebration of the Nith and the communities around it.

💛A huge thank you to all the brilliant people who helped bring Nithraid to life - our workshop hosts, artists, performers, speakers, race organisers, volunteers and everyone working behind the scenes. We couldn’t have done it without you!

✨ A special thank you to the amazing Oceanallover for creating this year’s Progress of the Salty Coo and bringing her through the streets of Dumfries. Wonderful, joyful and completely unforgettable!

⛵️ And of course, a massive congratulations to all our rowers, sailors, kayakers and paddle boarders! You brought so much energy and excitement to the River Nith and we hope you enjoyed taking part as much as we enjoyed watching you.

Nithraid simply wouldn’t happen without our incredible team. Since EcoArt took the reins from our friends at The Stove Network, the team behind Nithraid has become smaller, but what they lack in numbers they more than make up for in passion, creativity and determination. They work tirelessly to make Nithraid happen and are committed to bringing energy, fun and creativity to Dumfries while celebrating the River Nith. A huge thank you to every one of them! ❤️

And now… we look ahead to Nithraid 2027 and 15 years of Nithraid! 🎉

We’re already excited to celebrate this huge milestone with you. Keep sharing the Nithraid love, telling your friends and spreading the word and we’ll see you on the river next year!

The river has been low recently so we thought we'd share an image of it at low tide. This was when a gas pipeline was installed in 1911. The bridge, church and river are so familiar to those of us who call Dumfries home but there have been some changes too in the last 100+ years.
