We support and enrich the lives of young people aged 8 to 18, across Dumfries and Galloway, through Befriending.

If you wish to make a donation to the Project, please visit our website: www.befriending.org We aim to divert young people away from statutory measures of care, relieve their suffering and promote their well-being. The Befriending Project is an early intervention service which recruits, trains and supports volunteer adult Befrienders who are matched one-to-one with a young person, aged 8 to 18 years old. Young people referred to the Project may be young carers; going through a rough patch; geographically or socially isolated; affected by bullying or other problems at school; or affected by the lifestyle of other family members.

As always, this November we’re supporting Befriending Week. Befriending Week is the campaign to raise awareness about befriending and highlight the power of social connection in reducing loneliness.

Keep an eye out on our page this week as we highlight the impact that our wonderful befrienders have on the young people they support on a weekly basis.

We held two wonderful Halloween events this week: A Halloween party in our Newton Stewart office and some pumpkin carving and crafty fun in our Dumfries office.
Both groups of befrienders and young people got stuck into the Halloween fun, with many treats (and a trick or two) provided for all.

We are still actively recruiting volunteer befrienders across the region, particularly in Wigtownshire and Annandale & Eskdale. With befriender training scheduled in Dumfries for January 2027, there's no better time to sign up.
A Wigtonwhsire training date will be added at a later date.

We were thrilled to welcome Amanda Smith and John Kelly to our office on Tuesday to hand over a very generous donation of £500. Amanda and John raised these funds through their staff wellbeing day at Covetrus UK Dumfries and chose DGBP as one of their local charities to support.😊

A fantastic place to visit for anyone who loves animals ☺️

Looking for something to keep the kids occupied for a while over the school holidays? We're open every day 10am-3pm for visitors to come and see the animals 🐴🐮🐷🐑🐰🐐 Entry is free although donations towards the animals' care are always appreciated 😊
Please dress for the farm - wellies are a must at this time of year!

Our next training block in the Stewartry begins on the 27th October. It is not too late to register your interest.

As a result of recent presentations and social media posts, we have received applications from a number of interested adult volunteers in the East of the region, but urgently require volunteers to work with Laura in the West of the region.

Befrienders had a lovely evening in the Newton Stewart office learning new crafts to share with their young people.

It was a great opportunity for the befrienders to catch up and share their experiences of befriending.

Laura and Robin enjoyed visiting South Machars Community Centre to talk to visitors and promote the Project in Whithorn.

We also enjoyed coffee and a bacon roll in their community cafe.

One Hundred Voices is part of a three-year listening project documenting and recording the lives of care experienced people in Scotland. This moving, walk-through, guided immersion event is well worth a visit, giving insight into those with experience of being looked after by local authorities across Scotland. Places are still available in Dumfries today and tomorrow and in Stranraer from 24-26th September. Booking is essential. The event is not suitable for under 14s.
