Lest we forget.

Remebrancetide is a moving and important time of year.

Cadets and staff from TS Lynx were proud to attend the Dover Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at St. Peter and St. Paul Church, Dover tonight.

The unit band performed extremely well and cadets took part in the Service of Remembrance.

A huge well done to the Band of TS Lynx for their excellent performance for the Deal Royal Marines Association annual dinner held today.

Held at the Deal and Kingsdown Gold Club the band entertained the guests before dinner and their performance was very well received.

The principal guest was very complimentary and we were even visited by a fearless fox.

Happy 362nd Anniversary to HM Royal Marines!

Founded on this day in 1664 as the Duke of York and Albany's Maritime Regiment of Foot (sometimes called the Admirals Regiment) to serve as sea soldiers on Royal Navy warships. The regiment was also deployed to Deal Castle a few months after formation.

It became a permanent force in 1755, becoming the Royal Marines in 1802. The first Royal Marines Commado unit was formed in Deal in 1942.

As we enter Remembrancetide, we bring to mind all those who served and gave their lives in defence of their country.

TS Lynx will attend a number of Remembrance services over the next few weeks, with the main service being on Sunday 8th November.

For a short while, we will pause to remember.

Many congratulations go to our own Malcolm Liggett who, last week, received a Meritorious Service Award from the Lord Lieutenant of Kent, The Lady Colgrain.

Sunday 11th October saw cadets, adult volunteers, familes and supporters of East Kent District Sea Cadet Corps muster in Deal for the annual Trafalgar Day Parade and Service, this year hosted by TS Lynx SCC.

The parade was joined by Mr James Ryeland, Deputy Lieutenant, alongside Mayors from Deal, Dover, Margate, Folkestone, the Deputy Mayor of Ashford, Leader of Walmer Town Council and the Chair of Dover District Council, alongside many guests, families and friends.

The parade formed near the Royal Marines Memorial Bandstand and paraded through Deal to St. George's Church.

In the Churchyard of St. George's, is the tomb of Captain Edward Parker RN, protege and Aide de Camp to Nelson, who died in Deal after a battle off the coast of France. Nelson paid for Parker's military funeral and tomb. Flowers were laid on his tomb, in his memory, prior to the main Church service.

A service was led by Rev Sean Sheffield, Vicar of St. George's Church with readings by 3 cadets of TS Lynx and the Deputy Lieutenant.

The parade then returned through town, offering a salute to the Deputy Lieutenant at Deal Castle, before dismissing on Walmer Green.

RN White Ensigns flew from the RMA Club and Deal Castle and bright, warm sunshine capped off a great day in Deal.

Don't forget to join us this coming Sunday - 11th October - as we round off National Cadets Week by East Kent District Sea and Royal Marines Cadets parading through Deal to commemorate the Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.

Follow us from Walmer Green at 1pm or back from St. George's Church at 2pm.
