Cadets and staff were honoured to attend the Unknown Soldier Service, held at Dover Cruise Terminal today.
The location holds a particularly significant place in our nation's military history. Originally Dover Marine Railway Station, the terminal played a vital role during both World Wars. During the First World War, it served as a departure point for troops heading to the Western Front and as a principal arrival point for thousands of wounded servicemen returning home. During the Second World War, it also played an important part in the evacuation of Allied troops from Dunkirk.
Perhaps most poignantly, it was here, on 10 November 1920, that the Unknown Warrior arrived back in Britain before making his final journey to Westminster Abbey, where he was laid to rest.
The service provided an opportunity for our cadets and staff to reflect on these sacrifices, pay their respects and remember all those who gave their lives in service to our country, including those who remain unidentified. It was a privilege to take part in this important act of remembrance, at a location with such a deep connection to the history we remember
