Then vs Now 📲

The front cover used to shape the conversation. Now, your feed can feel like a never-ending stream of the “ideal”.

But what you see isn’t the whole picture. It’s personalised to you. And when the same types of bodies, trends and messages keep appearing, it can be easy to think everyone looks this way.

Scroll Safe. Think twice.

The “ideal” body has never stayed the same. But the impact of being told what our bodies should look like can. 💭

Now add AI, filters and algorithms into the mix, and perfection can look more achievable than ever. But here’s the catch: the ideal was never realistic to begin with! The goalposts keep moving. What’s “in” changes. The rules change. And the cycle keeps us chasing a body that was never meant to be attainable.

Scroll Safe is exploring how diet culture has evolved, how it shows up in our feeds, and what we can do to challenge the pressure. Read more about this years campaign here: https://firststepsed.co.uk/scrollsafe/

Scroll Safe is back! And this year, we’re going back to the ’90s. 📼✨

Think celebrity diets, magazine covers and “perfect body” headlines… sound familiar? Because while the platforms may have changed, the pressure hasn’t disappeared. Diet culture has evolved, and today, it can be delivered straight to our feeds by the algorithm.

Throughout September, we’ll be unpacking how diet culture has or hasn't changed, looking at the content we’re exposed to online, and sharing practical ways to make our digital spaces healthier.

Follow the campaign and stay tuned for more https://firststepsed.co.uk/scrollsafe/

What happens when someone asks for help… but has to wait?

For many people living with an eating disorder, specialist support doesn’t happen straight away. That’s why we run Waiting Well - a weekly online support group where people can connect with others who understand, access practical tools and find support while they wait for specialist care.

But we need your help to keep it going! Your donation could help make sure someone has somewhere to turn while they wait. Please donate today and help us keep Waiting Well free and available for those who need it.

Less waiting. More support. 💙

We’re excited to announce that First Steps ED and Univa have launched the UK’s first digital stepped care pathway for ARFID, now live in Hertfordshire.

The pathway is designed to help families access support sooner, with care starting quickly after referral. Families can access a 10-week digital ARFID programme through the Univa app, supported by parents/carers. If more support is needed, First Steps ED’s specialist team can step in with one-to-one support.

For families affected by ARFID, this means earlier support. Read the full press release to find out more about this new approach to ARFID care: https://firststepsed.co.uk/blog/press-release/first-digital-stepped-care-pathway-for-arfid-significantly-reducing-waiting-times/

A big thank you to the White Rose Ladies Cricket Team in West Hallam, who raised an amazing £573 at their Ladies Cricket Festival.

The fantastic total was raised through raffle tickets and cake sales, with every penny donated to First Steps ED in memory of Ellie Taylor. Ellie’s mum, Rachael, and her sister, Mia, who also play for the team, have been fundraising for us throughout the year, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything they have done to support our work.

Thank you to everyone who played, baked, bought raffle tickets, donated and helped make the day such a special one.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported Holly, our Director of All Age Services, at Morrisons in Buxton. Her tombola raised a fantastic £240 for First Steps ED.

Here at First Steps ED, our staff are passionate about supporting people living with eating disorders, both through their work and by helping to raise awareness and vital funds.
Holly said: “I want to say a big thank you to everyone who supported the tombola and kindly donated. All the money raised will go towards providing essential support to those impacted by eating disorders.”

Inspired to fundraise for First Steps ED? Whether it’s a tombola, bake sale, sponsored activity or community event, your support can help us reach more people affected by eating disorders https://ow.ly/WZvv50ZvHI1
