Al & Jo Ditheridge - Fundraising for PXE

Al & Jo Ditheridge - Fundraising for PXE We are raising funds to support international research into PXE, (Pseudoxanthoma elasticum), please like, support and follow our progress. Al Ditheridge.

Pseudoxanthoma elasticum, PXE, is an inherited disorder that causes select elastic tissue in the body to become mineralised, that is, calcium and other minerals are deposited in the tissue. This can result in changes in the skin, eyes, cardiovascular system and gastrointestinal system. PXE was recognised over a hundred years ago. It affects approximately 1/25,000 people making it a rare genetic di

sorder. Our eldest son was diagnosed with PXE in the summer of 2013 and since then we've been wondering what we can do to help find ways of combatting the various illnesses related to the disease. So, in addition to the dietary and healthy lifestyle that we have to impose on our son, I thought it would only be the right thing to push myself, (and maybe some others), to enter into various physical challenges to help raise awareness and money to help international research into PXE. Over the next twelve months I'll be entering into various events, races and challenges, hopefully being supported and sponsored, by family, friends, organisations and anyone else that is able to offer any little bit of support to help fund the extremely valuable research that is being commissioned around the world by PXE International. Please do contact me if you would like more information about PXE but please feel free to visit the PXE International website: www.pxe.org as they are the experts. Even better, you could donate to my fundraising page, that would be brilliant. Thanks for taking the time to visit.

Hello friends, ooohhh, it’s been a flipping tricky 18 plus months for us all, I hope you’re all ok ❤️🤗🤗🤗

I'm so sorry it's been such a long time since I posted on here😞😞

Most of you hopefully know, I’ve done a lot of fundraising in the past for PXE International but, for very obvious reasons, that’s been on the back burner for some time now. You may also know I’ve been training for the Manchester Marathon in the hope that I could kick start fundraising again.

Well, the marathon is a little over a week away and I’ve still not sent out my fundraising page!! Truth be known, I haven’t been 100% sure I was going to get to the start line! The last six months or so have been super tricky for me, physically and mentally and it has taken a lot of support from family and close friends to get me through some difficult times.

What I have learnt through this time, well more reinforced, is how important the communities and people around me are and how much we need local as well as wider support networks to help us trough those more difficult times.
So, that said, I WILL be getting on that start line on the 10th October and I will be doing some fundraising.

This time though I will be raising funds for three organisations that are helping me, my family and my local community MASSIVELY. They are PXE International, (obviously), Friends of Spondon Parks and Run Talk Run. These three organisations are doing so much for my local community and beyond but do not have the resources or funding of your usual charity.

This is already a big enough post to digest so, over the coming days I will post a few “Getting to know them” features to give you the opportunity to find out about their marvellous work they do.

I will leave you with a link to my fundraising page which does give some background info about the organisations. It’s a “Go Fund Me” page as this is the easiest way to split the fundraising equally.
Thanks a million for your time and support x x x
