Thank you dearly to all who make Area training possible from the Course Directors who plan and organise everything to the Instructors that facilitate and the Supervisors that look after everyone in the evening, to the Welfare and First Aid Teams that look after everyone’s wellbeing, to the Logistics Teams and drivers and everyone in between.

Thank you for what you do!

Captain Sea Cadets, Captain Hannah MacKenzie VR RN has a message for our dedicated volunteers:

"As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week 2026, it’s the perfect time for me to reflect on the incredible volunteer-led outcomes and achievements I’ve witnessed during my first six months as Captain Sea Cadets. Firstly, thank you to all the amazing command teams, instructors and trustees who have welcomed me into their units during my travels so far. Your passion and dedication has been truly inspirational – and I know that your hard work and positive impact is being replicated in units across the UK.

To every single one of our volunteers: I am absolutely humbled by the effort and commitment you show, week after week, rain or shine. The way you always put your cadets first; your pride in seeing them achieve their potential; and the support you show to your colleagues – that is the bedrock of the Sea Cadets family, and I am so honoured to be your Captain. Because of you, our young people are gaining the confidence, resilience and strong values they'll need to be the leaders (and volunteers) of the future! On behalf of everyone at MSSC, I offer my deepest thanks. BZ!"

Just a note about boating kit:

There's no need to buy anything new but don't wear anything that you wouldn't want to get wet or dirty.
Old trainers are ideal, if you do want to buy something, places like lidl, sports direct or aldi sometimes have deals on boating shoes but shouldn't be more than £10-15.
Legs should be covered (avoids sun burn) but not with anything heavy or that would soak up water, tracksuit bottoms or Leggings are ideal, no jeans please.
We don't ever wear football colours, it's too divisive but that weight of t shirt is ideal. This should be covered with a fleece or sweatshirt, layers, so that they can be removed or added to, as the weather fluctuates. A splash proof jacket could be handy too, if you have one.
You should also bring sun tan lotion, regardless of weather, the sun reflects on the water & wind can damage your skin too. Unfortunately, we cannot supply or apply sun tan lotion for you, as some people have reactions to certain brands, so everyone needs a small bottle of their own.
A peaked hat is needed to keep the sun out of your eyes (woolly if it's going to be dull & cold)
You will also need to bring a towel & set of clothes to change into, for the journey home, should you get wet.
You will also need a bottle of water (never energy drinks) and if over mealtimes, a packed lunch.
Any questions? email [email protected]
This is also the contact for joining

For Volunteers’ Week 2026, we’d like to say thank you to all our incredible volunteers.

We are incredibly grateful for the time, commitment and passion you give to Sea Cadets every week.

Whether you’re instructing, supporting your unit behind the scenes, or helping cadets take part in new opportunities, you are making a real and lasting difference to young people’s lives.

As one parent shared recently, “it’s helped bring out the best in my children - we’re very grateful.”

On behalf of our cadets, thank you for your dedication, time and inspiration 💙
