The Great Tommy Sleep Out 2024

That’s our The Big Tommy Sleep Out completed. An amazing night spent in Darlington town centre. Yes it was a little wet, yes it was a little cold but we had one night to sacrifice our home comforts, Homeless Veterans don’t have this luxury, they are there for various reason but one of which is not choice.

Fantastic support from The 'New' Old English Gentleman and more importantly everyone that stopped off for a chat, learnt more about the sleep out and what we do as Darlington Veterans Community. Obviously not forgetting the hundreds of people that donated either cash or via our QR code.

We have raised over £1000 so far, collections and donations are still coming in so thank you to everyone. Your kindness and generosity is absolutely outstanding.

The Great Tommy Sleep Out 2024

Evening everyone, less than 24 hours to go before Darlington Veterans Community, hit the streets to spend a night under the stars outside The 'New' Old English Gentleman to raise awareness and much needed funds for the 6000 plus Veterans sleeping rough in the UK.

As a veteran I know the struggles and real life hardship we all face when leaving the forces. Adapting to civilian life is extremely hard, and with little support from our Armed Forces and Government.

Having our brothers and sisters we have fought along side and served with on the streets is a disgrace. The Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) help many Veterans on a daily basis.

This is YOUR opportunity to show support and help these brave and proud veterans suffering from hardship. They have done so much for our country. So please show your support and help OUR veterans get their confidence and independence back as well as show just how good a nation we can be.

Many have shown support and donated throughout the month of March, total funds raised is over £900,000 and the awareness has increased beyond expectations. So donate only what you can, let’s see if we can reach £1m. If you are unable to donate then please share and spread the awareness far and wide.

One of our EPIC socials coming up
Friday 27th

The 'New' Old English Gentleman
Normal craic: drink fun and spinning dits.

But this time we'll be asking for a couple volunteers for specific roles so we can become a bit more active.

No pressure though, nobody will be criticised for not volunteering. The community is for you to get what you want out of it and if you just want to attend events, that's absolutely fine.

See you there.

Saturday the 12th, Darlington football club are playing and same as last year, the game is free to get in for veterans and serving personnel. We will have a presence for more information on what we do.

Sunday the 13th, remembrance parade as usual followed by a toast and drinks in the old English. (Upstairs has been reserved for veterans and thier families) so why not come along and make a day of it, share stories and remember those we have lost.
