Over the past few months, several vehicles have managed to get into North Park, and many residents have told me how worried they are about the safety of children and families using the space. Cars and vans driving onto the grassed areas pose a real risk, and it’s clear that stronger protections are needed.

After residents raised their concerns with me, I took the issue straight to Darlington Borough Council and pushed for action. I’ve asked for additional posts and barriers to be installed to reinforce the existing security measures and prevent vehicles from accessing the park again.

Everyone has the right to feel safe in their local green spaces, and when people come to me with concerns, I believe it’s my responsibility to act. This situation shows how independent representatives can help drive practical, community focused change without party politics getting in the way.

North Road Ward is included in the latest boundary review, with plans suggesting the ward would move to having only two councillors in future. These changes could influence how our area is represented, so it’s important that local residents take a moment to look at the proposals and share their views.

Great news for Eldon Street. Today I had the chance to look around the brand‑new social housing properties built by North Star Housing, and they are genuinely impressive. The homes are modern, energy efficient, and thoughtfully designed complete with solar panels and high‑quality finishes that will make a real difference for local families.

It’s fantastic to see investment like this in our community, bringing high‑standard, affordable homes to people who need them. Eldon Street is looking brighter than ever, and these new properties are a brilliant step forward.

A huge well done to everyone involved in making this happen.

More life-saving trauma cabinets have been installed across Darlington as part of the Northgate and North Road Community Cohesion Panel's (NNCCP) latest efforts to improve the lives and safety of those living and working in those areas of the town.

Cabinets have already been installed in key locations in the town centre and more can now be found at Hopetown Darlington, the Arthur Wharton Foundation in Widdowfield Street, Salvation Army Shop in North Road, The Well Methodist Church in North Road, YMCA Darlington at Aspen House, Chesnut Street and Darlington College.

As well as defibrillators, the cabinets include bleed kits with items such as pressure bandages, tourniquets and gloves and will enable members of the public to take action prior to an ambulance arriving at the scene.

The council’s community safety team will monitor the cabinets and replenish when necessary. Durham Constabulary is aware and can advise anyone of the locations and combination number to gain access if required.

Launched last year, the NNCCP brings together local residents and businesses to identify and tackle issues in their area, working with Darlington Borough Council, Durham Constabulary, County Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service and others with the support of funding from the Durham Police and Crime Commissioner.

Free potentially life-saving bottle available in our charity shop! Message in a Bottle is a simple but effective way for people to keep their basic personal and medical details where they can be found in an emergency on a standard form and in a common location – the fridge.
If they are called to a home, Message in a Bottle helps emergency services personnel to save valuable time in identifying an individual very quickly and knowing if they have any allergies or take special medication.
Paramedics, police, fire-fighters and social services support this Lions life-saving initiative and know to look in the fridge when they see the Message in a Bottle stickers, supplied. The initiative provides peace of mind that prompt and appropriate medical assistance can be provided, and next of kin/emergency contacts can be notified. Police could look for our Message in a Bottles to find out any background information of missing people, e.g. if it has previous addresses, hobbies, interests, which could help find them. Our shop is at 23 Blackwellgate, opposite Binns in Darlington town centre. We are open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday. 😀
