MISSION & PURPOSE MONDAY

Valentino: Every Small Step Matters đź’™

Valentino is attending speech and language therapy at Mama Cocha, who, due to a moderate global developmental delay and a mandibular malformation, faces significant challenges with verbal communication.

At present, his speech is mainly limited to referential sounds, making each achievement incredibly meaningful.

However, through his own determination, the unwavering support of his family, and consistent therapeutic intervention from the Kiya therapists, we are celebrating some truly significant milestones.

Valentino can now identify vowels and words that he previously did not recognise, demonstrating that learning is possible when perseverance and dedication are present.

At Mama Cocha, we believe that every child develops at their own pace and that no progress is too small to celebrate. Our mission is to support each of our patients with patience, commitment, and hope, working together day by day to help them achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.

Because behind every step forward is a story of effort, and behind every achievement is an opportunity to continue growing. ✨

Looking Back: Rosario’s Story ❤️

In 2013, we met Rosario — a sweet young girl living in conditions that are difficult to put into words.

The first photos were taken during a home visit we carried out alongside the police, as part of the process to remove her from an unsafe environment and connect her with the support and care she urgently needed.

Today, more than a decade later, Rosario is living in a women’s home where she is safe, supported, and thriving. Seeing how far she has come is a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

Every child deserves safety, dignity, and the chance to build a brighter future. Rosario’s journey is proof that intervention, compassion, and long-term support can change lives.

Thank you to everyone who has walked alongside us over the years and helped make stories like Rosario’s possible. 💛

Family participation is vital for a child’s growth and development.

When families are actively involved, children gain confidence, build stronger communication skills, and feel more secure as they explore the world around them.

At Mama Cocha, we believe that progress happens not only during therapy sessions but also through the love, support, and commitment of families. By working together, we can help every child reach their full potential.

Thank you to all the parents, siblings, grandparents, and caregivers who walk this journey alongside their children. Your involvement makes an incredible difference every single day.

❤️ Together, we grow.
❤️ Together, we learn.
❤️ Together, we thrive.

Family volunteering is an experience not to be underestimated.

The bond between loved ones grows stronger when you step outside your comfort zone together and share meaningful adventures, unforgettable moments, and opportunities to make a real difference.

Over the years, we have welcomed 109’s of volunteers on our group and family programmes.

From supporting therapy sessions and community projects to building friendships that cross cultures and generations, every family leaves a lasting impact—and takes home memories that will last a lifetime.

Volunteering together isn’t just about helping others; it’s about growing together.

Interested in joining us on a future family volunteering adventure? We’d love to hear from you.

Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Today, our basic monthly operating costs are ÂŁ4,500, with the majority of funds going directly to what matters most: therapy and specialist staff who work alongside our children and families every day along with the behind the scenes team of lawyers, accountant, fund raiser and project director.

đź’™ 65% Therapy & Staff Costs
🏠 20% Rent & Materials
đź“‹ 15% Administration

To continue providing life-changing therapy and create a sustainable future beyond 2026, we need to secure an additional ÂŁ1,500 per month.

This isn't just about keeping our doors open. It's about ensuring that children can continue accessing the right therapy, so that families can receive support, and our team can keep building brighter futures for the children who depend on us.

Every donation, every share, every introduction to a potential supporter helps move us closer to that goal.

Together, we can create a sustainable future.

If you feel you can increase your sponsorship by a ÂŁ or 2....or are ready to join the Kiya family and sponsor the Mama Cocha project with a small monthly contribution, please get in touch! Link in the bio or drop us a message at: [email protected]

Thank you for believing in our children and being part of this journey. ❤️

Days of Learning, Growth and New Perspectives✨

Over the past few days, our team has taken part in an intensive training that has helped us see the world through the eyes of our children in a completely new way.

The experience has been truly inspiring. Our therapists are excited by the new strategies, approaches, and possibilities they have discovered for working with our children, our resources, and our families. As an organisation, we are already looking forward to putting this knowledge into practice.

A special thank you to Occupational Therapist Erick, who not only trained our staff but also worked directly with each parent, providing practical guidance and activities that can be continued at home. We will be supporting families to follow these recommendations and monitor progress together.

Throughout the training, myths were challenged, awareness was raised, and many families gained valuable new understanding. One of the most important messages was the vital role of family involvement. When professionals, families, and schools work together, we create the best possible opportunities for our children to thrive.

The training also highlighted the urgent need for behavioural therapy support for some of our children. Unfortunately, this specialist service is not currently available in Máncora, but we are committed to exploring solutions.

We concluded with an internal case review session, bringing together therapists and teachers from schools attended by our children. This collaborative approach will help ensure that everyone is working towards the same goals and using consistent strategies.

It has been a deeply meaningful and transformative experience.

From this moment forward, we move ahead with renewed commitment, greater motivation, and stronger collaboration between professionals, families, schools, and the wider community — all for the benefit of our children. 💜

✨ Walk the Camino for Kiya ✨

This year myself & 9 other enthusiastic Kiya supporters will be taking on the final stretch of the Camino de Santiago — 54km over 4 days — as part of a fundraising challenge to support the children and community at Kiya.

Every step is giving vulnerable children the care, dignity, and support they deserve.

If you’re able to support, even a small donation makes a real difference and helps us continue this work.

đź’› Thank you for being part of the journey.

✨ EDUCATION & TIPS ✨

Simple exercises can also be done at home to support a child’s development, such as helping them into crawling positions, balance games, gentle stretching, and activities that encourage them to support their weight using both their arms and legs. 💙

These exercises help strengthen muscles while improving posture, coordination, balance, and overall body stability. They also encourage mobility and body awareness — all essential parts of a child’s daily development and independence.

At Mama Cocha, we always recommend carrying out these activities safely, respecting each child’s individual pace, and following the guidance of their therapist. Family involvement is such an important part of the journey, because every moment of practice at home helps reinforce the progress achieved during therapy sessions. 🌎✨

✨ REFLECTION ✨

María Trinidad was — and will always remain — a very special part of the Mama Cocha story. This photo from 2014 reminds us of her joy, her light, and the happiness she shared with everyone around her each day. 💙

Coming from a highly vulnerable background, MarĂa Trinidad was in desperate need of care and support when our outreach team first found her. At Mama Cocha, she found a space where she felt safe, cared for, and accompanied with love, dignity, and respect.

For us, it was an honour to walk alongside her, learn from her strength, and receive the warmth of her affection. Some people leave deep footprints on our hearts, and María Trinidad is one of them. 🌎✨

✨ MISSION & PURPOSE MONDAY ✨

Lucas has been part of Mama Cocha for the past five years. During this time, we have had the privilege of supporting him steadily and progressively in his development, always respecting his own pace, needs, and abilities. đź’™

Over the years, his progress has been truly remarkable, especially in the sensory and occupational areas. Today, we see a child who is more connected to the world around him, more sociable, more confident, and more engaged in everyday activities.

At Mama Cocha, we deeply believe in supporting children with love, patience, and commitment. Beyond therapy sessions, our mission is to create spaces where every child feels understood, valued, and empowered to grow in their own unique way.

Lucas’ journey is a beautiful reminder of the power of consistency, teamwork with families, and providing real opportunities for development, inclusion, and hope for every child. 🌎✨
