October IBD support meeting ✨

We had a fantastic evening with our guest Melissa, who delivered a brilliant session on hypnotherapy and the importance of managing stress and getting a good night’s sleep, including the role of REM sleep in our overall wellbeing 💤✨

We also went around the room and shared one thing we were grateful for that day. It was such a simple but powerful activity that brought a real sense of positivity to the group 💚 Sometimes, taking a moment to focus on the good things in life can make such a difference to how we feel.

Living with Crohn’s, Colitis or an ostomy can bring it’s own challenges, so taking time to look after our mental wellbeing is just as important as looking after our physical health 💚

A huge thank you to Melissa for sharing her knowledge with us and to everyone who came along and made it a great evening full of laughter.

Invisible Disabilities Awareness Week ✨

This is what an invisible disability can look like. We were chronically ill in all these photos.

You might not see Crohn's or Colitis but their impact is very real. We shouldn't have to prove we are unwell to be met with compassion and flexibility.

A little patience, kindness and understanding can make a huge difference 💜🙏

We have arranged a number of wellbeing events which are all about making time for you, connecting with others and supporting your wellbeing. Please see the events tab for details 📆

Music is therapy ✨

Last night we attended the Mayor and Mayoress of South Ribble’s Beatles by candlelight Rylands String Quartet event as one of their chosen organisations to support this year.

Music has got me through and still gets me through difficult times in my life and how very apt winning chocolate and flowers in the raffle on World Mental Health Awareness Day, a perfect addition to our Autumn window display 🧡🎃

On World Ostomy Day, I want to dedicate this post to one truly amazing lady ❤️

Diane has worked in stoma care for over 30 years and has supported and helped so many ostomates through their recovery after surgery.

But for me, she is so much more than that. Diane has been by my side from the very beginning, caring for me at my grandma and grandad’s house when I was too weak to walk the stairs and had to use their stairlift, after life saving surgery in 2014, right through to helping spread the word about our support group, inviting me to speak at NHS events and lifting my spirits when I had another bowel surgery in 2024, telling me I always look glam, even in hospital 😂👌🏻

Her care, kindness and dedication have made such a difference to so many lives, including mine.

Today is about celebrating ostomates, but also the incredible people behind the care who make such a difference at an incredibly difficult and vulnerable time.

Thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do. You really are one amazing lady 🥰

Yesterday our Trustee Kirsty attended the seen and supported hidden disabilities event at The University of Lancashire, spreading the word about our support meetings and raising awareness of IBD 💜

The Bristol Stool Chart was a great conversation starter and Kirsty was able to sign post students to their GP regarding symptoms they were experiencing 💜
