Racing Hondas Championship

Decent weekend at Donington racking up some more points toward the championship.

Quali P2 0.9 off Bob and 3 tenths clear of Frazer.

Race 1 lost all power steering in assembly had to race in 32degrees outside temp for 15 mins probably one of the hardest races I’ve ever done and was about half a second down on my pace. Started P2 but physically couldn’t hold the car to defend from Fraser who got a blistering start off the line. Tommy made a nice move up the inside and I had to conceed. Every time I loaded the car the steering wheel would knock and try to kick back hard unsettling the car not to mention how physically demanding it was to turn the 9x17 wheels on AO52s. After a race long stint of chasing down Tommy and feeling like I needed to retire the car my opportunity came on the second to last lap I was catching and managed to get on his bumper into the shikane with the aim to get the run down the pit straight into red gate unfortunately I forgot what gear I was in missed my gear and then locked. Crossed the line in P4 nearly needing to be sent to the medics!

Race 2 started pole managed to hold of Frazer who got another great start and meant we ran side by side all the way down to the old hairpin. I got a mega drive off pulled a gap then by McLeans I had Bob back on my bumper, against good exit from McLeans and coppice but I couldn’t keep Bob behind and he was up the inside into the esses! Knowing he had the pace I settled and just wanted to pull a gap from Frazer and Tommy. A few laps in saw Spencer go off at the old hairpin and the red was under safety car, annoying as we had pulled a few second gap so was now nose to tail. I managed to get a mega re start along with Bob and we were both gone by turn 1 extending the gap from Tommy and Frazer who were behind. I kept Bob honest and actually started to claw back his advantage towards the end of the race to finish only 0.8 over the line!

Time to decide what to do because the race is for second at the moment and I can’t afford to upgrade the car within the regs to what it could potentially be. I have a few things I can do within my budget that others already have so let’s see maybe that’s enough to get a win

Also another trophy for my No1 supporter who came to watch me this meeting 💙🏆

Thanks to all my sponsors and people that make it happen and also to my team Kinetic Motorsport

Race report

Racing Hondas Championship
Rounds 3&4 Cadwell Park

Practice on the Sunday was valuable due to not been on the circuit for a while and never driven it using the new EK. The car felt good and little changes were made it was more about focusing on driving. Unfortunately the day was ended prematurely with engine issues which meant we could not continue

Race day

The team spent the evening and morning rectifying the engine issues in preparation for the race day.

The morning practice session would be used to put a heat cycle through the new tyres and also bed in a new set of rears incase the weather decided to change. Having completed just 1/2 lap the engine overheated and I had to pull off the circuit where I was able to get a few bottles of water from the spectators! Thanks guys 🙂 The session was red flagged due to another stranded car through hall bends. Fortunately I managed to get the car back to the pits and sort the overheating issues before heading back on circuit to complete some laps.

Qualifying

Went pretty well setting a lap time of 1.35.015, unfortunately been a few tenths up on the delta and coming across a slower class B car meant my fastest lap was hindered! I felt I could have gone half a second quicker but I’m not sure if that would have gained me a position with Tommy and Bob setting times of 1.34.4 and 1.34.6 respectively, but I would of been close!

Race 1

Starting P3 on the grid behind Bob I knew I had the opportunity to get alongside Tommy and hopefully make a position although the series of corners at cadwell would mean that Tommy if stayed in position would have the inside line for 2 and 3! Lights went red and out very quickly Tommy got a bad start and I move into p2 behind Bob I thought about going to the inside but on cold tyres I held position knowing that he was quick enough not to back us into the competition. Me and Bob managed to create a small gap. I tried to keep with Bob through the twisty sections but he was too quick as soon eased a gap. Now concentrating on the race for 2nd I could see both Tommy and Fraser in my mirrors I tried to just maintain the gap and not do anything daft as it’s very easy to loose the car around this circuit. Fair play to Fraser he kept his cool and positioned his car to not allow Tommy past. I could see all this going on in my mirrors and just kept my head down. Fraser kept me honest until the finish line where I got p2 and. Fraser a very deserved P3 as always I was happy for my fellow competitors slowed down to congratulate Fraser on his first podium and also congratulated Bob on his win and ran side by side with Tommy for the spectators. EKs and EGs showing the way 🙂

Race 2

Starting the reverse grid in P4 behind James Alford who got a reverse grid pole, I knew this was going to be exciting as his pace was some 4 seconds off where we were in qualifying and race 1. Tommy staring in P2 was easily past into turn 1 followed closely by Fraser I managed to get close but I decided to yield with James closing the door! something I would later regret as this destroyed our race for the podium. Both me and Bob sat behind James for a whole lap whilst Tommy and Fraser checked out! On lap 2 I took the first opportunity and made the move alongside into turn 2 and through turn 3 James still made it difficult but Bob also followed me through. Seeing how much pace Bob had I kept left and didn’t defend allowing him to make the move into turn 4, hoping I could tuck in and chase after P2 man Fraser. By this time he was a good 4 seconds up the road and Tommy even further. Again I tried to stick with Bob but I couldn’t match his pace I watched the race unfold and Bob drive away catching and passing Fraser and then after Tommy. My only aim was to try catch Fraser, the lap times came down and down each lap and I could see Fraser start to drive his mirrors and make the odd mistake with the pressure I was applying. Meanwhile Bob had started to fall back, I assumed he was nursing an issue with his car later to find out he was done for and completely exhausted! on the last lap both me and Fraser were nose to tail and on the back of Bob. Unfortunately for me, the chequered flag came out and we finished P4 behind Fraser in P3 and Bob in P2 one more lap and that might have been a different story!

I was sceptical about racing at cadwell park due to the damage last year however all drivers were respectful and we had some good close racing. Class A is looking to be a good battle this year I’m against 3 cars running under the same awning hut in up for the battle. I’ve hardly done any development to the car and still have things I need to do which will make it even more competitive. Well done to everyone on the podium and I hate to say it but to the 3 kilter k swaps. You ain’t getting many more opportunities to do that if I can help it! Bring on Donington see you all there 💪

As always a big thanks to my team Kinetic Motorsport and my personal sponsors

On to the next one at Donington bank holiday Monday 25th May my birthday weekend! We currently stand P2 in the drivers championship standings

Race report

Racing Hondas
Rounds 1&2 Silverstone National 5th April

10 laps on Friday testing to make sure the car was ok and we were in to Sunday race day for the first of 8 events over the coming months for the Racing Hondas championship.

Practice 1: Didn’t go too well with the car having a lot of mid corner push, crossing the line a second off pace and only managing P7. The team were able to make some necessary changes and we were back out for our first qualifying session.

Qualifying: The car felt much better on new tyres and with the changes applied we had rotation and the car felt like it was capable. Not knowing what position I was in as I was unable to see my pit board I continued to push and just gain as much seat time as I could. When I entered the pit for the end of the session I was soon told I was P2! A huge step up from the morning practice. We then found out we were not in the optimum tyre pressure window and still within 2 tenths of a second from pole man Barron.

Race 1 we made no changes checked the car and fuelled the new radium fuel cell to the brim to meet our minimum weight. I didn’t get a great start but held position, I could see Tommy behind me who was pushing hard to get past. Fortunately I was able to hold Tommy off and position my car in the right places, this then allowed Bob to creep away with me and Tommy hindering our pace by having a respectful battle. Towards the end of the race I could see we were gaining on Bob he made a mistake and we were soon on his tail at the same time I noticed Tommy got slightly held up which gave me a buffer so it was game on, unfortunately I locked up and went full broadside into maggots and soon had Knight on my tail again. Managing to hold position we crossed the line after a race long battle in P2.

Race 2 saw us start in P3 from a top 4 reverse grid from race 1. This time Frazer started on pole, unfortunately Tommy was unable to start due to mechanical issues so I had Bob alongside me in P4. A good start saw both me bob and Frazer battling for the lead out of turn 1 on the run to maggots. I was on the outside and eventually had to conceed falling back to P3. Trying to get a cut back on Frazer through the long right hander of Luffield I opened the door for Ryan Jennings who took no hesitation to put his DC2 alongside and up the inside and through into position dropping me back to P4. Meanwhile Bob again was making a gap upfront. I knew I had the pace and waited for my opportunity to get past P3 man Frazer which came a lap later, getting a good exit from maggots and having the slip stream a late move up the inside to Brooklands saw me take position and now chasing down the orange DC2 of Jennings. Following Ryan who was defending well I could see Bob had a free track and moving into the distance I knew I needed to make the move on Jennings but he wasn’t going to be easy to pass after closing the door on me into turn 1 earlier in the race I had to be a bit more tactful. Finally after a few laps the move was made and I managed to get the run off the corner at luffield and past before Wodcote. Bob had gained too big of gap and Ryan was close enough to keep me ware he was there. I was gaining time but Barron had the race under control crossing the line to take the win with me taking P2, another great race and points on the table!

Dave

“Last year was a struggle with the car and quite demoralising at times racing a car that was not on the pace, I have always said if my car is the right power to weight and handles decent then I will race and today proved that, after having no seat time over winter and literally putting the car off the trailer and into the race there is still more time to come from me and the car and I couldn’t of really asked for much better result today. Great respectful racing with the guys up front and I hope this continues for the rest of the season. Massive congrats to Bob he had the legs this weekend and well done to all the other drivers and teams and the Racing Hondas staff for putting on a great event.

I would also like to personally thank my sponsors new and old for their support this season, as always we would not be here without them and a massive thanks to my team Kinetic Motorsport for all the effort they put in behind the scenes for not just my racing but all the other drivers to.

Look forwards to cadwell a proper kart like style track which I should enjoy give my past experience!

First time at knockhill and what a circuit it is!

55.75 first and only push lap in qualifying before fuel issues meant I had to retire from the session! Gutted as I deffinetely had the pace to be in the top 3!

Car has felt mega this weekend despite still been 35kg over the power to weight. Finally getting there with it.

first and only push lap i managed at Knockhill before fuel issues caused me to retire from the session after been -0.3 up on my delta by turn 3 on the net la...
