Children on the Edge

Children on the Edge We envision a world where every child thrives regardless of geography, ethnicity, gender, or caste.

Children on the Edge is a child rights organisation that works hand-in-hand with communities to support some of the world’s most marginalised children, in some of the toughest situations. We envision a world in which every child thrives regardless of their geography, ethnicity, gender, or caste. We work to create conditions in which every marginalised child can flourish and thrive no matter where

they live and irrespective of the challenging circumstances they face. We place children at the heart of everything we do by working hand-in-hand with local communities to restore hope, dignity, and justice; and to actively involve everyone in creating transformation.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, Haiti will be playing their first match at the 2026 FIFA Football World Cup ⚽

We were especially thrilled to see two players - Leverton Pierre and Deedson Louisius - called up for the Haitian squad. They kickstarted their professional careers playing at a small community football project in Port-au-Prince which was supported by Children on the Edge back in 2010.

Midfielder Leverton Pierre was just nine years old when he joined the grassroots football project, started by Patrice Millet. Alongside teammate Forward Deedson Louisius, he found a haven and was supported to discover his potential and start his professional career.

We'll be keenly following their progress at the World Cup! Find out more about their journey from a grassroots football project to the world's biggest sporting stage in our latest blog: https://buff.ly/9Vehngt

After more than a decade of displacement, families in Kachin State are finally beginning to return home. Despite the harsh realities of rebuilding from scratch, people are steadily leaving Internally Displaced Persons camps to return to their original villages. They are determined to rebuild their lives, and they are taking our early childhood education model home with them.

Our education model works, making sure all the knowledge and skills are found within the community itself. This means they can start new centres and continue supporting their children's development as they return home and begin rebuilding their futures.

"We're doing education wrong if children aren't playing"

We love how Programme Officer Wardah explained the importance of play-based learning.
Children learn best when they are playing and we use this approach for all of our early childhood education programmes.

Today for International Day of Play we wanted to share some of our favourite photos of free flow play in action at our preschool groups in Uganda.

At the preschool groups you support for refugee children in Uganda, the teachers have been looking at different activities to help the children recognise their names.

When they arrive in the morning the children register by finding and picking up cards with their names written on them. The teachers noticed how excited the children were with these name cards, so they added string so that they can wear them - which has been a huge hit. The children love wearing their new name tags and it's helping them to start recognising their printed names, and those of their friends!

We’re celebrating an incredible decade of generous support from Chao Foundation and the Transparent Fish Fund, who have been instrumental in maintaining safe spaces where displaced children in Kachin State, Myanmar, can learn, play, and grow.

They have tenaciously backed this work through thick and thin, ensuring quality early childhood education provision continues against the backdrop of an often-overlooked civil war.

We’re extremely excited to partner with them this year to support children who remain in the displacement camps and those returning to their home villages.
