A fantastic weekend of international fundraising for Isabel Hospice! 🌍

Last weekend, supporters took on incredible challenges on both sides of the Atlantic in memory of loved ones, while raising vital funds for hospice care

Lucy and Alice completed the Naples Marathon in memory of Lucy’s dad, Roy, raising an amazing £2,145.

Meanwhile, in Virginia, USA, Tomy, Gemma, Joshua, Kelley, Ben, Morgan, Cobie, Nicole and Ethan tackled the Spartan Race in memory of their sister, Sam. Together, Sam’s Squad raised an incredible £1,566.

Between them, these dedicated supporters raised £3,711 for Isabel Hospice. Every mile run, obstacle conquered and donation received will help us continue providing compassionate care and support to patients and families when they need it most.

Thank you all for taking Isabel Hospice across the globe and for keeping the memories of Roy and Sam at the heart of these amazing achievements.

Happy National Cheese Toastie Day! 🧀💙

Today, our wonderful chef Shirley took orders from patients, nurses and staff across our Inpatient Unit, serving up freshly made cheese toasties for everyone to enjoy.

It's a small gesture, but moments like these can make a big difference. Whether it's a comforting treat, a favourite meal or an extra special touch, we're always looking for ways to bring a little joy to those we care for and the dedicated teams who support them every day.

Our Lights of Love virtual Christmas Tree is a special way to remember someone you love. Simply visit the Lights of Love page on our website and light a virtual star. When you leave a dedication you can share a favourite memory or write a message about the moments that still bring a smile to your face. You are also welcome to upload a photograph of your loved one if you wish.

⭐ Each star will shine brightly throughout the festive season, celebrating someone special while supporting the vital care Isabel Hospice provides.

All dedications received by Monday 16th November will be featured in our Lights of Love Book of Dedications and in the 9th December edition of the Welwyn Hatfield Times. The Book of Dedications will also be available at each of our Lights of Love services.

"When robins appear, loved ones are near."🐦

Our beautiful robin Christmas tree ornament is a heartfelt way to remember someone special this festive season, making a meaningful addition to your Christmas tree or a thoughtful gift for someone remembering a loved one this Christmas.

Each robin is £9 and helps Isabel Hospice continue providing vital care and support to local people and their families.

My name is Anita Smith and I am the Family Support Operational Lead here at Isabel Hospice.

Every December, I see referrals to our family support team rise sharply, as people begin anxiously anticipating Christmas without their loved one.

But, in the sixteen years I have worked here, the most important thing I have learned is this: grief is not something we are meant to get over. There is no set timeline and no correct way to do it. It is about trying to adapt to a new way of living, and having somewhere to acknowledge your loss and remember the person you are missing can make that process much easier.

The Isabel Hospice Lights of Love service is that somewhere.

On the 3rd December 2026, the community will gather together in Welwyn Garden City for our main Lights of Love service to honour loved ones who are no longer with us. Hundreds of names - each one represented by an In Memory Star - will be displayed on the Christmas tree.

Every Star represents a life that mattered, a name, a story, a person who is still loved and still remembered.

For every dedication made on the digital Lights of Love Christmas Tree, a physical In Memory Star, featuring your loved one’s name, will be placed on the Christmas Tree at the main Lights of Love service in Welwyn Garden City.

When you dedicate an In-Memory Star to your loved one - their name will also be included in our special Lights of Love Book of Dedications, and printed in a special tribute feature in the 9th December issue of the Welwyn Hatfield Times – allowing your loved one’s name to be read, and remembered by a whole community this Christmas.

If you cannot join us in person, please know that if you dedicate an In Memory Star online, we will place your loved one’s physical In Memory Star on the Christmas tree with the greatest care, and we will hold you and your loved one in our thoughts during the service.

💙 A huge thank you to our incredible Team Isabel runners who took on the Royal Parks Half Marathon last Sunday!

Congratulations to Abbie, Benji, Johnny and Ryan for their amazing achievement and for raising a fantastic £4,409 for Isabel Hospice. 🎉

This incredible total could help fund more than 130 hours of expert nursing care, helping patients and their families feel supported and cared for when they need it most.

Thank you for every mile, every donation and every ounce of determination that made this possible. 👏

A huge thank you to the Roche team who completed the London to Brighton Cycle and raised an amazing £1,408 for Isabel Hospice.

Congratulations to Alex, Catherine, Finley, Robin, Jules and Pete on taking on this incredible challenge. Your dedication, determination and fundraising efforts will help us continue to provide compassionate care and support to patients and their families across eastern Hertfordshire when they need it most.
