💙 40 Challenges for 40 Years

To celebrate her 40th birthday, Lucy Hutley has set herself an incredible challenge: 40 challenges in her 40th year, all in memory of her dad, Barry, who was cared for by Isabel Hospice.

From swimming and cycling to running and even a skydive, Lucy is pushing herself far beyond her comfort zone to raise vital funds and awareness for Isabel Hospice.

And she’s already made an incredible start. Her achievements so far include Swim Serpentine, a 70.3 Ironman, a triathlon, a skydive, and many more challenges along the way with plenty still to come!

Every challenge Lucy takes on is helping raise vital funds to support Isabel Hospice in providing compassionate care to local people living with life-limiting illnesses, as well as the families and loved ones around them.

We did it... Thank you for helping our care shine brighter!🩵

Isabel Hospice has raised an incredible £150,000 through our Care that Shines summer campaign, reaching the ambitious target set to help ensure local families can continue to receive compassionate hospice care when they need it most.

Over the summer, our community came together in a remarkable display of generosity, supporting a wide range of events, activities and appeals that made this achievement possible. These included Care for a Cuppa, the Spring Raffle, Celebration of Life, Quizabel, the World Cup Sweepstake, the Circular Walk, Care for a Swim, Brickendon Golf Day, Essendon Golf Day, the Around the Clock Appeal and the Summer Raffle.

Reaching this milestone would not have been possible without the support of our staff, volunteers and you; our supporters. All of us at Isabel Hospice would like to thank everyone who gave their time, donated, took part in an event or helped spread the word throughout the campaign.

Your support helps ensure our care continues to shine for local people living with life-limiting illness, as well as their families and loved ones, across eastern Hertfordshire. Together, you have helped make it possible for Isabel Hospice to continue providing expert, compassionate care wherever it is needed most.

While we're celebrating this incredible achievement, we're already looking ahead to something even bigger, so keep an eye out for 'Together at Christmas', coming very soon... ❄️

Thank you to everyone who joined Isabel Hospice's Will Writing Seminar yesterday. 💙

More than 30 staff, volunteers and supporters attended the informative one-hour session, which provided expert guidance on some of the most important aspects of planning for the future.

A special thank you to Molly Sullivan from Tollers Solicitors, who delivered an engaging and insightful presentation covering a range of topics, including who needs a Will, what can be included in a Will, charitable gifts, Will trusts, what happens when someone dies without a Will, Lasting Powers of Attorney, and recent changes to inheritance tax. Molly also took numerous questions from attendees and kindly hosted one-to-one appointments for those wishing to discuss their personal circumstances in more detail.

Lisa Bailey, In Memory and Legacy Officer, concluded the event by highlighting the vital role that Gifts in Wills play in supporting Isabel Hospice. Lisa explained the different ways supporters can leave a gift in their Will and shared information about Isabel Hospice's Make a Will Month campaigns, which take place every March and October.

We hope to host another seminar next year and would encourage anyone who has not yet made a Will or arranged a Lasting Power of Attorney to consider attending.

A huge thank you to Seamus Shevlin for organising his fantastic Dance All Over Cancer event.

This incredible support will help us continue providing vital end of life care and support for patients and their families across eastern Hertfordshire, when they need it most.

🎉 On Tuesday, we had the pleasure of celebrating some of our incredible team members as they received their Long Service Awards. Over tea and cake, we came together to thank them for their dedication, commitment, and years of service to Isabel Hospice. 💙

🌿 Meet Marie 🌿

Marie is one of our dedicated Spiritual Care volunteers, providing compassionate support to patients and their loved ones at our Inpatient Unit.

A practising Tibetan Buddhist for over 14 years, Marie brings warmth, kindness and a calm presence to those who need it most. Through listening, meaningful conversation and simply being there for others, she helps people feel valued, understood and cared for during difficult times.

We're incredibly grateful for the comfort, compassion and support that Marie brings to our hospice community every week.
