We’re incredibly proud to learn today that Broughty Ferry RNLI has been named Scotland’s busiest lifeboat station.

While it’s not a title anyone sets out to achieve, it reflects the dedication of our volunteer crew who are ready to respond whenever the pager sounds, day or night, in all conditions.

Every launch is a team effort, and with 543 recorded launches between 2021 and 2025 we’d like to thank our families, fundraisers, shop volunteers, station supporters and the local community who make our lifesaving work possible.

Most importantly, we’re grateful that we can be there when people need us most.

This recognition belongs to everyone who supports the station and helps keep our lifeboats ready to answer the call.

Over the last 9 days, Broughty Ferry RNLI has been really active. We've responded to various incidents... a jetski call-out; two persons in distress; a yacht in difficulty and a medical evacuation. It’s a testament to the dedication of our volunteer crew that because of their commitment, all persons involved in our incidents are safe. Thanks to Ian at SaltDog Marine for the images.

👏 Well done to Michael and the crew — and, of course, the ever-important Fred! — for completing the final mile of the Mayday Mile Challenge.

A huge thank you as well to the wonderful people of Broughty Ferry for the generosity extended to our crew this morning. Every penny raised will go towards helping us save lives at sea. 🌊🚤

We'd also like to extend our thanks to the gentleman we assisted on a shout recently, who kindly dropped off a dustbin-sized cookie 🍪 as a token of appreciation for the help we provided. Your kindness was greatly appreciated by the whole crew!

Please remember that while it may be a blisteringly hot day in The Ferry, the Tay Estuary remains bitterly cold and can be extremely dangerous. Always take care around the water and respect the conditions.

Photos from today's Mayday Mile walk can be found below, with the final photo featuring our crew member Alex proudly (and professionally!) modelling the king-sized cookie. 😄

🚶‍♂️💙 Today is the final mile!

Our very own RNLI Mechanic, Michael Wilkinson, will be completing the last leg of his Mayday Mile Challenge this morning Saturday 30th May.

Michael has already completed an incredible 30 miles throughout May in support of the RNLI, and today he will take on his 31st and final mile alongside some of the crew and our faithful practice mannequin, Fred!

📍 We'll be setting off from Broughty Ferry Lifeboat Station at 10:00am and making our way through the streets of Broughty Ferry. (The route is detailed below) And all whilst this is happening the crew will be ready to sprint back to the Lifeboat Station should a ‘Shout’ come in.

If you see us along the route, please give us a wave and some encouragement. Fred is quite a heavy chap to carry around, so any motivation will be very much appreciated! 👋😁

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported Michael throughout his challenge so far.

If you would like to help Michael reach his fundraising target and support the RNLI's lifesaving work, you can make a donation via his donation page here:

Really sad news this Bank Holiday weekend, with four teenagers losing their lives in water incidents across the UK. 💙

With the warm weather, lots of people will be enjoying Broughty Ferry beach and the waterfront this summer 🌊☀️ Please stay safe around the water. Cold water, strong currents, tides and hidden dangers can catch anyone out — even strong swimmers.

💙 Don’t swim alone
💙 Don’t jump into unknown water
💙 Float on your back if you get into trouble
💙 Call 999 and ask for Coastguard or Fire & Rescue in an emergency

And please don’t remove or damage liferings — they’re there to save lives and one day could help you, your pals or your family.

Look after each other and enjoy the summer safely 🙌

🚨 Right… enough now. 🚨
Our donation point has been broken into twice this week — which takes some doing, given it’s watched over by two guards who are clearly stealing a living.
(One hasn’t moved all week. The other’s barking mad.)
Just to clear things up:
👉 it’s not a cash machine
👉 there’s no hidden jackpot
👉 and we empty it every day… so there’s barely anything in it anyway
All that’s being taken is the generosity of local people trying to keep the lifeboat ready when it’s needed most.
So if you see anyone taking a bit too much interest — give us a shout 👀That way we can save scrolling the endless CCTV that's available for our local police to peruse!
And if you’re using it properly… you’re the reason it’s there in the first place 💙
— Your local Broughty RNLI crew 🚤💙

Our own extended lifeboat family are at it again… apparently surviving life with a crew member now qualifies as an endurance sport 🚤😂

Crew partner Hailey is fundraising for the RNLI, so if you’ve ever needed a tow, or caused a shout ….. now’s your chance to give something back 😅

Every donation helps and is massively appreciated ❤️
