YMCA Broughty Ferry

YMCA Broughty Ferry We're the Broughty Ferry YMCA, serving the local community for over 150 years! During both wars the premises were requistioned by the Forces.

For room enquiries, please get in touch with by visiting us directly during weekday mornings, giving us a call at 01382 775988 or sending an email to [email protected]. The YMCA in Broughty Ferry was founded in premises in Gray Street in 1866, moving nine years later to the present premises, formerly a church and then an infant school, in Brook Street. In 1893 a gymnasium was gifted by Alexander

Jefferson Buist, President at that time. Largely through the efforts of members themselves , a table tennis hut, acquired after the first world war was dismantled and a new, much enlarged hut erected in its place. During December 1963 the Stephen Gillanders Memorial Extension was opened in memory of Stephen Gillanders who was President of the local Association from 1952 till 1962. The extention cosists of a kitchen and lounge in a large social area. Traditionally the local Association is sport orientated producing many fine players within the realms of Badminton, Table Tennis and Football. In addition many members have made good within the fields of Public Service and Academic work. By their activities all members past and present are seen to be expressing the true meaning of the Association within the Local YMCA. Local volunteers have helped the YMCA survive as the years have moved on, through giving up their time to help develop the local youngsters of Broughty Ferry and enhance their interests. These volunteers have been invaluable to the survival of the YMCA. However more help is always readily needed to keep the YMCA open and more people need to use the facilities to keep the Association financially viable. Greater community involvement is under consideration and many exciting projects are planned for the future. Donations gratefully received via:http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/ymbferry150

Once again, the Benefact Group are running their Movement For Good 12 Days Of Giving campaign, where they generously give ten charities that have been nominated £1000 each, with this continuing for twelve days. Meaning that they will give £120,000 in total to 120 charities.

And we'd be honoured to be one of those 120! So that's where you guys can help. It is a raffle to decide the chosen charities so while even a single nomination can win, the more nominations we get, the better chance we have.

All you need to do is go to the Movement For Good website - www.movementforgood.com - and fill in your charity nomination, or even easier, if you click on the link below, it should even have most of the details filled in for you!

We could receive a £1,000 donation with your help throught the Movement for Good 12 Days Christmas Draw.

We were delighted to have a visit recently from Stephen Gethins, our local MP for Arbroath and Broughty Ferry, and provide a tour - ably done so by our Voluntary Director, Dave Mills - of all the various facilities that we provide as a centre for the community! 😁

To paraphrase Stephen himself a little, here's to 150 more years, and beyond!

Broughty Ferry YMCA would like to say a massive thank you to the employees of Scottish Gas Networks. They recently came and laid slabs in our working garden as part of their Community Action Programme, in which the employees give up their time free of charge to assist with various projects as a way of "giving back" to the community.

As can be seen by the before (left) and after (right) pictures they worked extremely hard to transform this area into a much more workable space. So once again thank you so much SGN for your support! ❤️
