YMCA Broughty Ferry

YMCA Broughty Ferry We're the Broughty Ferry YMCA, serving the local community for over 150 years! During both wars the premises were requistioned by the Forces.

For room enquiries, please get in touch with by visiting us directly during weekday mornings, giving us a call at 01382 775988 or sending an email to [email protected]. The YMCA in Broughty Ferry was founded in premises in Gray Street in 1866, moving nine years later to the present premises, formerly a church and then an infant school, in Brook Street. In 1893 a gymnasium was gifted by Alexander

Jefferson Buist, President at that time. Largely through the efforts of members themselves , a table tennis hut, acquired after the first world war was dismantled and a new, much enlarged hut erected in its place. During December 1963 the Stephen Gillanders Memorial Extension was opened in memory of Stephen Gillanders who was President of the local Association from 1952 till 1962. The extention cosists of a kitchen and lounge in a large social area. Traditionally the local Association is sport orientated producing many fine players within the realms of Badminton, Table Tennis and Football. In addition many members have made good within the fields of Public Service and Academic work. By their activities all members past and present are seen to be expressing the true meaning of the Association within the Local YMCA. Local volunteers have helped the YMCA survive as the years have moved on, through giving up their time to help develop the local youngsters of Broughty Ferry and enhance their interests. These volunteers have been invaluable to the survival of the YMCA. However more help is always readily needed to keep the YMCA open and more people need to use the facilities to keep the Association financially viable. Greater community involvement is under consideration and many exciting projects are planned for the future. Donations gratefully received via:http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/ymbferry150

That's us off for the Dundee Fortnight! Emails may be checked and responded to sporadically throughout the next couple of weeks, but aside from that, we look forward to seeing you all again on August 10th!

But before we go, we're happy to let you know that the issue with switching phones has now been sorted, so when we are back, you should be able to get in touch with us by phone once more!

Since we've had some messages about it, we just thought we'd let you know that the Treasure Hunt is taking a break this year, in part due to scheduling constraints.

We're both happy to know there was plenty of excitement for it, and sorry to disappoint that it won't be available this year.

Got some items you're maybe looking to get rid of, or at least find out their possible worth?

Well, in a couple of weeks you'll be able to do exactly that as Vintage Cashout will be coming to Broughty Ferry YMCA!

Running from 10am to 3pm on Thursday 23rd July, their team - with over 50 years of experience - will be here to appraise all manner of items from scrap gold to medals to cameras, and make an offer for them - though you need not feel pressured into making a decision, as you're not obligated to take it.

There'll be refreshments on offer too, so why not come along and have some fun!
