- Daffodil - We are so proud of this special girls progress 🌼

When she arrived, I couldn’t be certain of her future. As she had a 4cm open wound from a dog bite. Along with several other puncture wounds and a massive burden of round worm.

After a set back with her stitches opening, 2 courses of antibiotics, she is now well and truly on her way to full recovery.

Just a few more prickles to grow and she will be back to the wild. Isn’t she just beautiful 🤎🦔

- New Intake - Meet little Aster 🥺

He’s a tiny 212g found out in the daytime. He’s too small to be out alone so he will be with us to grow some more. He is underweight for his size but eaten well over night.

We’ve found the only thing he likes is the tiny Babycat biscuits. We’ve popped them on our Amazon wish list if anyone would like to buy him some more, I’m sure he and the other wee beans would be most thankful 🤎🦔

- Buttercup - We’ve been waiting patiently to see if Buttercup is possibly pregnant 🦔

She arrived found out in the day, with ringworm, round worm and fluke. Today she had a trip to the vets to decide on a treatment plan for an old injury to her eye.

To be safe, we are going to hold out a little longer to see if she has babies. It definitely seems like she’s eating for 5!

Then she will more than likely have the one eye removed. We will keep you updated on her progress 🤎🦔

- New Intake - We have a one out, one in situation at the moment 🫣

Who remembers Poppy? She arrived as a hoglet last year. Unfortunately she was seen on a wildlife camera with a head wound.

I’m sure after a quick stop over at Henbrook HQ, she will be back off to enjoy her freedom in the wild 🤎🦔

- Thank You - More Kindness for Our Little Rescue 🥹

Included are some essentials we needed to purchase like medication, puppy pads and blue roll.

A huge thank you to everyone who helps keep our poorly pickles well fed while they receive treatment and care with us.

As a small non-profit rescue, we rely on the kindness and generosity of our wonderful prickle loving community. Your support makes a real difference to the hedgehogs in our care, and we are incredibly grateful.

- Did You Know? - Hedgehogs are listed on schedule 6 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Which makes it illegal to kill or capture wild hedgehogs.

They are also listed under the Wild Mammals Protection Act 1996, which prohibits cruel treatment of hedgehogs.

I personally feel this is a prime example of a wildlife crime against our precious prickles. Credit to the media and Dottie’s Little Hog Hospital Charity Number: 1210935 for highlighting this cruelty.

Please, if you have visitors, don’t mark them. Wildlife cameras are a great way to see who’s visiting your garden. Marking them is not 🤎🦔

Dottie's Little Hog Hospital in Herne Bay says it has been rescuing an increasing number of hedgehogs covered in what is believed to be paint or nail varnish.

- Mamma Sweetpea - It’s clean-out day for Sweetpea and her three beautiful little beans 🥹

Although we had to pause her treatment plan following her surprise arrival of babies, she is doing an amazing job caring for them and settling into motherhood.

With new mums, we keep handling to an absolute minimum to reduce stress while they focus on feeding and caring for their young. During today’s quick clean-out, the babies were kept warm and safe while Sweetpea received her medication and a little TLC in the nebuliser.

- New Intake - A belated update from Lady Daisy 🌼

Daisy was found wondering around in the day time at Rigby Hall School. Once we confirmed she wasn’t a nesting Mum and didn’t see any obvious injuries. We knew there would be something hiding in her sample.

To look at her, you wouldn’t have any suspicion of what was lurking under the microscope. Thankfully she was found before the parasites had taken over.

But she is most certainly displeased with having her picture taken 🫣🤎🦔

- Daffodil - The sweetest prickle, is busy regrowing her prickles 🥹

It’s been a challenge and a long healing process for this dog bite wound. But it’s finally closed. Even with her bold patches, the servants still think she’s beautiful.

She’s completed her treatment for roundworm. We’re just waiting for some more prickles to grow now so she can properly protect herself when she returns to the wild🤎🦔
