Hi there. Just to remind everybody that The Bridge Community Shop is open 6 days a week , manned by volunteers, selling stationery, cards, and other items in order to generate funds to subsidise the village having a post office. Despite being moderate busy, the Bridge Post Office makes a loss of around £6,000 per year. It is only able to exist thanks to the support of the community using the Bridge of Weir community shop for their purchases, and the profit from those sales, keeps the post office running. A lot of the Post Office business is now handling parcels- both being sent by customers, but also increasingly being picked up by customers who find us a convenient pick up point. Some folk may not realise all the other services we provide, many free of charge- Fishing permits pick up point, Hearing aid repairs and battery supplies, Art exhibitions, Help to local disabled people with mail, etc . We also have a photocopying facility, and a small cafe area. And this month we would like to feature that we stock inexpensive childrens toys, and books- so get stocked up for the summer for the kids and grandkids , and keep them off their screens for a wee while. Thanks for all your support.

A couple of pieces of news from The Bridge this morning.
Firstly, we are advised that there is Gully Cleaning Works outside the Centre on the Main St on 15th May ( this Friday) , so parking will be suspended all day. Please make alternative arrangements if you are planning to be down the village that day.
Secondly, our hearing aid technician, George, who has faithfully attended The Bridge on the last Friday of the month for a long number of years to help with hearing aid repairs and adjustments, has been ill and is no longer able to drive . He is recovering from a heart issue but we are advised that he will be unable to resume his duties. The RAH are organising a replacement person who should attend 10-11 as before on the last Friday of the month for minor hearing aid problems

Work going on this morning both at the old Bank of Scotland Building next to The Bridge, and also at the ex furniture showroom in the pedestrian area, ( which has had an alcohol licencing notice up for a while for a Spar shop). Plus the new Vets extension nearing completion. Also seemed to be some activity at the old Lochnagar tearoom a few weeks ago. So the main street is hopefully in a state of regeneration. Support your local shops- use them or lose them And its Bohemian Rhapsody , Film Night on the big screen at The Bridge tonight -- 7pm , free admittance , all welcome

Hearing Aid Technician- We were advised today that George, the gentleman who (voluntarily) attends the Bridge on the last Friday of each month to do minor hearing aid repairs and adjustments has had a heart attack and will not be at The Bridge this Friday. We don't have any more details at the moment. Our good wishes go to him and his family

At the request of our many loyal customers. CARD PAYMENTS are now accepted at The Bridge Shop. All regular credit and debit cards can be accepted, contactless, or Chip & PIN. Also Phone payments are fine as well. We have introduced this after many requests from our customers. Cash payments are, of course, still absolutely fine as well. Thanks to all for your continued custom.
The Post Office in Bridge of Weir only exists because of the income generated from the shop. The shop is manned entirely by volunteers, and is run in the background by a number of Trustees, also all volunteers. So if you use the Post Office and appreciate that it is local, then consider buying something in the shop to help subsidise it- All Post Offices, including ours, nowadays make a loss which is why most villages like ours , no longer have one. Best wishes from all The Bridge Team

Thanks to all our valued, regular customers who have supported us through the past year, and for making the shop and Post Office really busy over December right up to Christmas. The trustees and volunteers also appreciate all the cards and good wishes we have received. May we wish all our supporters a Safe and Happy Hogmanay and May 2026 bring you whatever you wish for.

One final little note regarding packs/rolls of Green Food Waste bags- We would advise our customers that we no longer have rolls of green , food recycling bags in stock- Renfrewshire Council have had a change of policy and they are now only available from Bridge of Weir Library , at the Cargill Hall, plus possibly at other council locations. We apologise for the inconvenience which is out with our control
