You are invited to Seed Circle at the Lochwinnoch Library!

Eight months ago we moved Diggin' It Seed Libraries from our office to make wonderful open-pollinated seeds more accessible to all but we don't want to stop there!

Come along to our first Seed Circle to share stories, learn about seed saving and meet fellow local gardeners. We’ll reflect on the growing season so far and take a look at some of the pea crops we’re growing.

Bring your garden photos, any pea seeds you’ve grown or have spare or simply bring yourself!

Come and have a little peak at what is happening in the Lochwinnoch Community Larder garden at Lochhead.

Highlight of this week is getting first crops into polytunnel, where we grow three varieties of tomatoes and Desert Spirit landrace squash!

While our polyculture beds are filled with peas, broad beans, French beans, onions, garlic, lettuce, chard, kale, beetroot, carrots, courgettes and radishes as well as some nasturtiums, garlic chives and rhubarb.

As well as growing fresh produce for the Larder we are growing some seed crops in this space. Seeds will be harvested, dried, stored and later redistributed throughout the Diggin' It Seed Libraries to you, our gardeners and growers in the local community! We are really excited about this part of our journey. Locally grown seeds growing in the gardens around us!
This years seed crops include:
Pea Robinson
Purple Mangetout
Ciliegia- Cherry Tomato
We might add in couple more as the season progresses.

Most of our produce is grown using wonderful Seeds of Scotland seeds, same seeds you find at our libraries here in Lochwinnoch, Johnstone and Beith.

What is growing in your garden? Let us know in the comments any favourites from the library so far?

Come join us at our seed saving workshop next Wednesday 27 May, 11am with Bora, who is a fountain of gardening knowledge and runs the seed libraries in Johnstone and Lochwinnoch libraries!

Saving our own seeds is a step towards food security here in Renfrewshire, as we can select varieties that are well-suited to our local climate, and a broader range of heritage varieties than those we buy in the shops.

Curious? Book your free space today!

Thanks to everyone who came down to our Diggin' It Seed Library launches yesterday in Johnstone and Lochwinnoch. We met so many lovely new members as well as community growing groups.
If you missed out on yesterday's events, not to worry; the seed libraries are now permanently set up with Lochwinnoch and Johnstone libraries. You can access the seeds through free membership. More information and our membership link are available here on our website: www.myleapproject.org/diggin-it
We are so grateful to OneRen for their amazing support; their brilliant staff really made us feel welcome yesterday. There are still some of the beautiful A Friend To Nature books they donated available in both libraries for children.
