Temporary Closure Notice – Networks Bistro & Radio City Association Office

It is with deep regret that we confirm the temporary closure of our community bistro and office premises within the historic Knox Institute due to emergency building repairs being undertaken by North Ayrshire Council.

This decision follows serious issues affecting the health and safety of our staff and the public. Safety must always come first, and temporary closure has therefore become unavoidable. Repairs are now underway and are expected, at this preliminary stage, to last approximately eight weeks.

We've invested over £100,000 into developing the bistro and supporting wider community use of the building. To see operations paused under these circumstances is profoundly disappointing for everyone involved.

As a direct consequence, we have regrettably, had to lay off our staff. This outcome has been forced on us by circumstances beyond our control and it weighs heavily on us

Our office space is also currently unusable, significantly impacting our wider community operations and ongoing regeneration work.

Despite this setback, we remain committed to our community regeneration work to develop a resilient and sustainable community long-term. Our focus now is on ensuring repairs are completed safely and swiftly, and on returning in a position of strength when it is possible to do so.

We thank the community for your continued understanding, patience and support during this difficult time.

We are sad to share the news of the passing of Jean Gilbert MBE.

Jean was a true stalwart of the Garnock Valley community including in her time as a board member of Radio City Association.

Jean was widely recognised for her community efforts with an MBE and also as North Ayrshire Citizen of the Year

Despite Jean’s disability, she was incredibly active and contributed to many organisations across our community and brought kindness and passion for community to all of these roles.

She was a champion of disability rights as Secretary of the Garnock Valley Disability Forum and also her service on Barmill Community Association amongst her many voluntary efforts and years of dedication.

Jean was a force of nature and leaves a legacy that will continue to inspire and help others for generations to come.

The Attix CIC turbine in Kilbirnie is now operational, becoming Scotland’s first community development to operate commercially without long-term government subsidies.

We’re proud to have helped fund this landmark project via Community Energy Catalyst, our joint venture with Better Society Capital and Fair Play Clean Energy.

Capable of generating over 7,000 MWh of clean electricity a year, profits from electricity sales will be used for other local sustainable development projects including employment, training and sustainable transport.

Huge congratulations to the Radio City Association team for bringing this pioneering project to life 🎉
