We’re excited to share that from Thursday 9 July, we’ll be running a new Bereavement Help Point at The Good Heart (Palmer Street) in Frome from 7pm to 8.30pm. These will run on the second and fourth Thursday of every month, and from 2 September, sessions will also run at this venue on the first and third Wednesday of the month.

All sessions are free to attend and open to anyone in the community who has been affected by a bereavement, including friends and family supporting someone who is bereaved.

We have Bereavement Help Points in various different locations across our 800sq mile patch, and you can find your nearest one here: https://okt.to/ETZtsy

From October to December 2026, as evening settles over the valley, the Hospice grounds will come alive with a breathtaking new large-scale light installation by internationally renowned artist — and Dorothy House Ambassador — Bruce Munro.

Known around the world for creating vast, immersive environments of light, Bruce is offering our community a rare gift: the chance to step into a landscape transformed into a place of beauty, remembrance and hope.

Visitors will wander among thousands of illuminated forms, each one glowing softly in the darkness — a constellation of light that seems to breathe with the landscape. Come alone to reflect and remember, or as a family to enjoy the wonder of this world-exclusive art.

However you join us, this is an experience designed to slow the world down: a moment to pause. Book your tickets today: https://okt.to/XpDE3L

This Pride Month, we proudly celebrate the diversity of our workforce, our community, and everyone we care for at Dorothy House.

Pride is a moment to shine a light on visibility, inclusion and the power of being seen for who you truly are. At Dorothy House, this reflects a commitment that runs all year round.

We know that truly personalised, compassionate care is only possible when every individual colleague, volunteer, patient, or family member feels valued, respected and heard. It's for this reason, we actively and continually work to remove barriers, amplify underrepresented voices, and create welcoming spaces where people can be themselves without fear of judgement.

This Pride Month, we celebrate our LGBTQ+ colleagues, volunteers and community, and reaffirm our commitment to equity, equality and diversity, recognising that different people need different support to thrive.

Happy Pride Month from all of us at Dorothy House 🌈 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

What happens at a Liminal Time workshop?

These full-day death literacy workshops explore the ‘liminal time’ - the period between a death and the funeral – offering gently guidance, practical advice, and emotional tools to help you navigate what can feel like an overwhelming time with greater confidence and clarity.

Workshops run from 10am to 6pm, with an hour for lunch and two breaks. Hot and cold drinks are provided, but food choices are up to you!

The day will be spent working through the 13 step concept, giving you the opportunity to learn and practice at the same time. A significant part of the learning of the day is from each other, so please come willing to share at least some of your experience.

You might cry, but you will definitely laugh!

The workshop is carefully designed to be a safe and supportive place for you to have the time and space needed to learn and share. Numbers are kept to a maximum of ten participants at each workshop.

We’re excited to be partnering with Isabel from Liminal Time to offer a series of these workshops throughout the summer. They'll be taking place on Friday 26 June and Friday 7 August at the Hospice in Winsley, with one also running in July (date and venue to be confirmed).

The cost to attend is £130 per person, however there are a limited number of free spots available if the price is prohibitive. If you’d like to register, please email [email protected].

As we celebrate 50 years of care, we’re proud to launch our 2026 Firefly Appeal ✨

Gifted to Dorothy House in 2021 by world renowned artist Bruce Munro, Firefly Woods is a unique constellation of individually handmade ‘Fireflies’ nestled here in the grounds of the Hospice in Winsley. Each Firefly is made of tiny separate lights that representthe life of someone special, glowing together to make a big impact.

By dedicating a light on a Firefly, you’ll be creating a lasting tribute to a loved one, as well as helping us provide compassionate care and support to families across our community.

Too many women are facing death alone. Enough is enough.

We’ll be at Henrietta Park on Saturday 4 July and want as many women as possible to join us, helping to send the clear message that the continued lack of support for women at end of life is not acceptable.

Your fundraising will help to ensure that Dorothy House is able to walk alongside women at the end of life – women who are dying alone, dying in poverty, and those already taking on the majority of care roles. Together, we’ll be unstoppable!
