⚠️ Important Notice – Group Cancellations ⚠️

Due to the Red Weather Warning for extreme heat, all groups taking place at the Winifred Kettle Centre this week have been cancelled to help keep everyone safe.

We are currently in the process of contacting all attendees directly.

Please take extra care during the hot weather, stay hydrated, keep as cool as possible, and check in on family, friends and neighbours who may be more vulnerable.

🌟 Calling All Older Carers 🌟

We are hosting a special one-off event for older carers and cared for and would love you to join us.

Caring for a loved one can be rewarding, but it can also be challenging and isolating at times. This event is an opportunity to take some time to meet others in similar situations, enjoy good company, and access information and support in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Extremely proud to report that we have again achieved a 5 star rating following an inspection by Bolton Council.
Thank you to staff and volunteers for working hard to achieve this.

To achieve a 5-star Food Hygiene Rating in the UK, we needed to score highly in all three areas assessed during a food hygiene inspection:

1. Hygiene Standards (Food Handling)

The Inspector looked at:

Safe preparation, cooking, cooling and storage of food

Prevention of cross-contamination

Personal hygiene of staff

Handwashing facilities and procedures

Food temperature control and monitoring

2. Cleanliness and Condition of the Premises

This included:

Clean kitchens, food preparation areas and equipment

Good maintenance of walls, floors, ceilings and surfaces

Adequate lighting and ventilation

Effective pest control measures

Suitable waste disposal arrangements

3. Food Safety Management

We had to demonstrate:

A documented food safety management system (such as Safer Food Better Business)

Regular food safety checks and records

Staff training and supervision

Knowledge of food safety hazards and controls

Up-to-date policies and procedures

Key Requirements for a 5-Star Rating

✅ Premises clean and well maintained

✅ Staff trained in food hygiene appropriate to their role

✅ Food stored at correct temperatures

✅ Good handwashing facilities and practices

✅ Effective cleaning schedules

✅ Pest-proof premises with no evidence of infestation

✅ Accurate record keeping

✅ Food safety management system fully implemented and followed

✅ No significant breaches of food hygiene law

As Volunteers Week 2026 comes to a close, we held an 'appreciation party' for our wonderful Senior Solutions team of volunteers.

A note from our Chief Officer -

"I just want to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of our volunteers. Your unwavering support, kindness, generosity and dedication make an incredible difference to the lives of the people we support every day.

Quite simply, this charity could not operate without you. The time you give so freely, the friendships you build, and the care you show help combat loneliness and bring comfort, companionship and joy to so many people in our community.

On behalf of Kirstie and myself, thank you not only for everything you do for the charity, but also for the support you have shown us personally. Your encouragement, commitment and belief in what we do mean more than you know.

This Volunteers' Week, we want to say a huge thank you to every one of our amazing volunteers.

Through your kindness, dedication, compassion and generosity of time, you are making a real and lasting difference to the lives of older people in our community. For many of those we support, your weekly visit, friendly conversation, telephone call, hardwork and support at groups, trips and events is often the highlight of their week.

You help tackle loneliness, build confidence, create friendships and bring comfort to those who may otherwise feel isolated. The positive impact you have cannot be measured but it is felt every single day by the people whose lives you touch.

Thank you to each and every one of our wonderful volunteers for everything you do. Your support, commitment and care help make our charity and community a kinder, stronger and more connected place.
