We Are Explorers CIC would like to celebrate pride month and everyone who identifies as LGBTQ+ 🫶

Our groups aim to support LGBTQ+ individuals as we recognise the specific issues faced by members of this community and have had first-hand experience with the impact that this may have. Therefore we would like to use this month to celebrate this wonderful community for being:

💚Determined
💙Welcoming
🌈And Proud

Trailblazers is a person led, neurodivergent friendly, space for LGBTQ+ individuals to meet, hang out and make friends :)

Our current activities include:
DnD campaign
Arts and crafts
And board games like:
The game of death
Organ attack
Uno

We will also be able to do new activities such as:
Outdoor games
Sensory activities in the quiet room
And enjoying beanbag chairs!

Recently our explorers have been learning how to crochet! 🧶🧵

Explorers runs every Saturday at the Turpike Art Gallery in Leigh from 11:45am - 1:45pm, and is a youth led group for Neurodivergent LGBTQ+ Young people aged 11-18.

We provide a safe space for young people to get crafty, play games, enjoy snacks and go on day trips! ✨

Come and join us at Central Pub Leigh this evening for our free LGBTQ+ 18+ social group, Trailblazers! ✨

Trailblazers is a person led, neurodivergent friendly space for LGBTQ+ and questioning adults to have fun and connect with peers.

Our trained staff are here too 💜 for a friendly chat, signposting and access to free gender & sexuality affirming products (binders, gaffs, condoms, dental dams and more).

Neurodivergent? Q***r? Both.🌈🧠✅

✨Happy Neurodivergence Celebration week!✨

From the 16th - 22nd of March we will be exploring and celebrating what it means to be neurodivergent.

Oftentimes, neurodiversity exists alongside q***r identity. Similarity in experience can be drawn between the two communities, with both neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ people effectively having to ‘come out’ as neurodivergent or LGBTQ+, not just once, but constantly to new people over time.

Both can sadly cause lots of shame and anxiety.

At we are Explorers, we create radically inclusive, joyful spaces for LGBTQ+ people, with a proud focus on neurodivergent communities.

✨You don’t have to split yourself in half to belong.

This years LGBTQ+ History month theme is ‘Science & Innovation’!

Every year, five historical LGBTQ+ figures are highlighted in line with the months theme, this year, the following figures have been chosen:

🏳️‍🌈 Barbara Burford, a medical researcher who established NHS equality and diversity guidelines.

🏳️‍🌈 Charles Beyer, a locomotive engineer and founding member of the institute of Mechanical Engineers.

🏳️‍🌈 Elke Mackenzie, a lichenologist who researched litchens in Antarctica.

🏳️‍🌈 Robert Boyle, a founder of modern chemistry and the modern scientific method.

And finally, the focus of this post, Jemma Redmond, a bio technologist who developed 3D printers to create tissues and organs.

This past weekend our Explorers gathered at Smithills Hall in Bolton to create a banner to celebrate Q***r History Month! Led by Guest artist Mitch, Explorers learned how to do gel plate printing and got creative with banner making,,,🎨🖌️👨‍🎨

Q***r History Month takes place in February of each year and is dedicated to celebrating the history, lives and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community.

This year’s theme is science and innovation, aiming to not only shine a light on the contributions of LGBTQ+ people historically and today in these fields, but also to highlight the harm that the community has faced as a result of the way in which science has been explored and misapplied in the past.

Diverse teams are essential for the development of solutions that benefit everyone, yet we might struggle to name LGBTQ+ scientists and Innovators.
