MAD Bingo are hosting a series of bingo nights to help raise funds for 2nd Bodmin Brownies.

The bingo nights will take place on 10th, 17th and 24th July.

We would be very grateful if you could share this far and wide with friends and family. The more people who attend and support the bingo nights, the more money we can raise for our Brownies.

We are also looking for raffle prize donations. If you are able to help or/ approach any businesses, that will donate vouchers, hampers, or other suitable prizes, it would be greatly appreciated.

It is fundraising like this that allows us to subsidise trips for our Brownies 💛

Thank you for your support! 😊

💪 Girls really can do anything!

We are incredibly proud of our young members, who continue to shine not only through their regular duties but by going above and beyond when it matters most.

On Friday at The Royal Cornwall Show, two Guides, Georgina from Bodmin and Mary from St Breward, were on duty at the dog tent, when they noticed a man had collapsed nearby. Thinking quickly, they remembered that the Cornwall Air Ambulance stand was close by and immediately ran to get help.

Their calm actions and initiative ensured assistance was summoned without delay. What a fantastic example of the confidence, courage and community spirit that Girlguiding encourages in all our members.

Well done girls, what a credit to Girlguiding Cornwall you are! 💙

Celebrating Volunteers' Week 💙

As we mark Volunteers' Week, I want to say a huge thank you to all of our incredible volunteer leaders across Bodmin Girlguiding.

Your dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment make such a difference to the girls and young women in our community. Whether you're planning meetings, organising activities, supporting events, or simply being there to encourage and inspire, you help create opportunities, adventures, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Girlguiding simply couldn't happen without volunteers like you. Thank you for giving your time, sharing your skills, and helping girls know they can do anything.

I am incredibly proud to be part of such a supportive and inspiring team.

Happy Volunteers' Week, and thank you for everything you do for Girlguiding in Bodmin. 🌟

WE ARE ONLY LEADERS ✨

We are only leaders, we are not experts, we are your next-door neighbours, we are not perfect, some are parents just like you.

We don’t have any more spare time or energy than you do, we all work full time and juggle our families and our schedules and try to keep it all together as best we can.

The only difference between us is that we believe passionately about what Guiding has to offer. So much so, that we contribute our time, our efforts and our talents to help our girls and your girls grow in Guiding.

We complete authorisation forms, budgets and records and fill our homes with boxes of paperwork you will never see. We are required to complete hours of training as well as planning meetings every month so we can meet our greatest challenge, providing a variety of programmes and activities which meet the needs and interests of very individual girls and young women. We try to involve parents who want us to understand that they don’t have the time to drive on outings or help at meetings. We rejoice in the generosity of others.

Sometimes we find ourselves going in too many directions, we run out of steam, we have memory lapses, communication lines break down, time slips by, but that doesn’t mean we don’t care. So many evenings we spend on the phone seeking help and advice from other leaders when disappointments or problems occur. “How do I hold my girls’ attention?” “How do you cope with girls of different skill levels?”

Our dining tables are covered in craft supplies, menus, permission forms and record cards for each and every member of the unit. A couple of them won’t show up and don’t think to call to let us know, sometimes we feel unappreciated.

Yet these girls can fill us with pride at their determination and accomplishments. Their smiles and laughter fill up a room, and when they say “thank you” it makes it all worthwhile. We help these girls build relationships. Some struggle more than others. Honest, caring, respectful, courageous, all these traits are encouraged through Guiding, and sometimes we too must learn these lessons over and over again alongside the girls, but we are willing to keep learning.

Please be patient if we appear distracted or frustrated or overwhelmed at times. Forgive us if we are not always the kind of Guide Leader you would be, if only you had the time. Instead, provide us with your encouragement, a kind word, a thank you, or offer us your help. Keep us always in your thoughts and prayers.

We are, after all, only mentors, role models, leaders, volunteers who have made a Promise to give these young people, your children, the most precious gift we have to offer, the gift of time.

Proud moment for 1st Bodmin Rainbows! ✨🌈

We are absolutely delighted to share that we’ve recently awarded another Silver Award, what an amazing achievement! 💛

A huge well done to Olivia for all her hard work, dedication, and sparkle. We love seeing our girls grow in confidence and challenge themselves 💫

A gentle reminder for all Rainbows, Brownies and Guides ♥️💛💙

To achieve these special sparkly Bronze, Silver and Gold awards, interest badges need to be completed at home in addition to their in unit activities 🥰

This means:
- Completing all three clauses per interest badge
- submitting evidence to your leaders
- don’t forget the additional Gold clauses

If you have any questions about badges, feel free to ask your leaders, we’re always happy to help!

This week our district commissioner Beth attended the Bodmin Fireworks presentation evening to receive a donation for the district.

All of us at Girlguiding Bodmin thank you for your support! Your donations are appreciated, not just by us, but by all the charities you support with your fundraising. This means so much to our girls.

Thank you to Bodmin and District Camera Club for the photo 💙

What a busy and very special evening was had at 3rd Bodmin Guides this week! ✨

We were delighted to begin the night with Amy presenting leader and her co-district commissioner Beth with a South West Region Thank You Award, a well-deserved recognition for all the time, care and dedication she gives to our girls and to Guiding locally. 💙

We were then pleased to welcome County Commissioner Sue Harris, who visited to formally present Beth and Amy with their Commissioner Badges. It’s always such a proud moment to see leaders recognised as they take on these important roles within Guiding.

To round off the evening, one of our Guides Emilia was presented with her Commonwealth Award, an incredible achievement and only the second one Sue has presented during her five-year term. What a fantastic accomplishment! 🌍🏅

A huge congratulations to everyone, we are so proud of you all and the difference you make in Bodmin Guiding. 💛

🌍✨ World Thinking Day – 22nd February ✨🌍

Today, Girlguiding Bodmin joins millions of girls and young women around the world in celebrating World Thinking Day.

First celebrated 100 years ago in 1926, World Thinking Day was created at the 4th World Conference of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. The date, 22nd February, was chosen because it is the birthday of both Olave Baden-Powell, World Chief Guide and her husband Lord Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Scout Movement. It is a day when we think of one another, celebrate our global sisterhood, (not just our cis-terhood) and reflect on the power of guiding worldwide.

World Thinking Day is organised by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and is celebrated by over 10 million members in more than 150 countries. Each year has a global theme that encourages girls to learn, reflect, and take action on issues that matter to them and their communities.

For us in Bodmin, World Thinking Day is about:
💙 Celebrating friendship across our Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers
💛 Learning about Guiding traditions and our shared history
🌍 Exploring this year’s theme through discussions and activities
✨ Making our Promise and remembering that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves

Within our units, we mark the occasion with themed meetings, badge work, international activities, and moments of reflection on what it means to be a Guide today. It’s always a special week in our programme and a reminder that even from Bodmin, we are connected to girls across the globe.

Happy World Thinking Day to all our members past and present 💙🌍
