With just over a week left to go, we want you to take Kera’s advice: “Apply no matter what, even if you are lacking in confidence, the whole point of this award is to build up that confidence!”

🥇 WORLD UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONS! 🇬🇧

What an incredible achievement for Young & Talented Cornwall-supported athlete Ellie Dash, who has won gold for Great Britain at the FISU World University Championships in Canada! 🚣‍♀️

Ellie and teammate Molly Curry led from the start to take 1st place in the women’s double, securing Ellie’s first international medal! 🏆

William has just added another incredible achievement to his growing list, topping the leaderboard in all four individual youth categories at the National Youth Surf Life Saving Championships at Holywell Bay this week.

And there’s even more exciting news… William has been selected to represent Great Britain at the SLS World Championships in South Africa this November! 🇬🇧 🇿🇦

It’s a huge milestone for William and a fantastic recognition of the hard work, dedication and talent that has taken him from competing in Cornwall to representing his country on the world stage.

William told us: "Racing in France at the World Ocean Series was a fantastic opportunity. Racing against the best athletes in Europe in big surf was lots of fun and I learned so much. I couldn’t have done this with the financial support.”

We’re incredibly proud of everything William has achieved and can’t wait to see him take on the world in South Africa. We'll be backing you every step of the way! 🏄‍♂️🌊🇿🇦

For Aaleyah, the Young & Talented Cornwall Creative Writing Award was more than just an award – it opened doors, gave her new opportunities and helped her take the next steps towards a career in writing.

Every awardee is paired with an established Cornish author working in a similar writing field, providing one-to-one mentorship, shared knowledge and invaluable feedback to help develop their writing.

Alongside this, awardees can receive up to £1,000 in financial support and £150 worth of books to further their creative journey.

We welcome applications from young writers across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We want to nurture Cornwall’s unsung talent and help the next generation of writers flourish.

For Isla, becoming a wildlife vet has always been the dream. Thanks to a Young & Talented Cornwall Spirit of Trevithick award, she was able to take a huge step towards making that dream a reality.

Isla spent two weeks volunteering at a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre in Costa Rica, getting hands-on experience caring for animals that could no longer be returned to the wild.

From preparing food and caring for parrots and other rescued animals, to shadowing the veterinary team, Isla was given an incredible level of responsibility.

She watched and assisted with emergency procedures, administered injections and medication, helped during operations and even learned how to carry out physiotherapy on a sloth! 🦥

“I loved how hands-on the volunteer work was and was delighted to be trusted with so much responsibility.”

The experience also gave Isla the chance to speak to people already working in wildlife veterinary careers, giving her a valuable insight into the profession and the journey ahead.

For a young person with big ambitions, opportunities like this can make all the difference.

We’re so proud to have supported Isla on her journey and we can’t wait to see where her passion for wildlife takes her next!

Cornish author Philip Marsden, curator of the Young & Talented Cornwall Creative Writing Awards, shares why he established the award and why it’s so important to nurture the next generation of talented writers here in Cornwall.

Every young person deserves the chance to develop their talent, no matter their circumstances. Through this award, aspiring writers can access incredible opportunities to help them take the next step on their creative journey.

We believe every young person in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly deserves the same opportunities to succeed. While we're lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world, it can also mean being hundreds of miles from specialist training centres, national competitions and career-building opportunities.

Cornwall Community Foundation’s Vital Signs 2025 report highlights just some of the challenges facing families in Cornwall. The real Living Wage here is 22% lower than the UK average, and 1 in 5 employees earns less than the real Living Wage. For many families, supporting a talented young person comes with costs that simply aren't affordable.

💙 "As a mum of three, I want my children to be able to fulfil their dreams, and I have always spent any spare money we have on Aneta's dance career because she is so talented.

The grants from Young & Talented Cornwall are so incredible because they allow lower-income families like us to access opportunities we simply wouldn't have had without the financial support.

Without this funding, I was having to choose between Aneta's travel costs and the cost of everyday living. This support is so needed in our county, and I would hate to think that any child would be limited simply because of where they live."
