Recently, Home-Start Kernow CEO, Jo Scrimgeour, had the pleasure of meeting The High Sheriff of Cornwall to discuss the importance of supporting babies, young children and families across Cornwall.

Jo said:

"We were delighted to hear about the High Sheriff's passion for the first 1,001 days and her commitment to ensuring families can access the right support as early as possible. With so many shared priorities, we're excited about the opportunities to work together over the coming year and make an even greater difference for children and families in Cornwall."

🧡 We stand in solidarity with families seeking safety, belonging and hope.

Refugee Week is a time to celebrate the many contributions that refugees bring to our communities, enriching our society through their skills, experiences, cultures and resilience.

This year's theme, Courage, recognises the strength it takes to leave everything familiar behind and rebuild life in a new place. For many refugees, courage is found in everyday moments, learning a new language, navigating unfamiliar systems, supporting their children, and creating a sense of home in a new community.

But courage is something we can all show. The courage to welcome others, to listen and learn, to challenge misconceptions, and to build communities where every family feels valued and supported.

At Home-Start Kernow, we believe every family deserves the opportunity to thrive, and we celebrate the diversity, strength and kindness that make our communities stronger.

🌿 Step outside, boost your wellbeing, and enjoy some fresh air with us!🌿

Friday, 19th June, we’re meeting at 9:30, Fairgrounds Car Park, Helston for a buggy-friendly walk, plenty of chat, and maybe a cuppa together.

Getting outdoors with children is a great way to lift your mood, ease stress, and connect with others.

Open to Navy families and the wider community, everyone is welcome, and we’d love to see you there!

🧡It’s Infant Mental Health Awareness Week, and the theme is attunement, being 'in tune' with your baby and responding to their needs🧡

Attunement happens in everyday moments: making eye contact, sharing smiles, talking, singing, reading, offering comfort, and following your baby's lead during play.

These simple interactions help babies feel safe, loved and understood, supporting their emotional wellbeing and healthy brain development in the .

Thank you for your time, kindness, compassion and commitment to local families. Whether you're offering a listening ear, sharing your experience, helping at groups, supporting fundraising, or giving families the confidence to thrive, your impact is immeasurable.

Over the last year, our volunteers have given an amazing 4,650 hours of their time, helping us support 1,110 families across Cornwall. Behind every hour is a family who felt less alone.

We couldn't do what we do without you, and we are grateful to have such a dedicated community of volunteers by our side.

As soon as your baby is born, they are able to begin conversations with you.

By picking up on their cues and responding, you will help their brain development. Think of it like a game of tennis - serve and return.

When your baby responds, respond back. Moments of connection release those feel-good hormones so your baby feels loved and understood.
