As Volunteers’ Week comes to an end, we’d like to thank our volunteers again for all they do and will continue to recognise and celebrate their contribution throughout the year.

As volunteers' week continues so does the fun - here a portion of our Western Practical and Conservation crew enjoyed a slightly damp but very informative day out with our friends at of Marston Vale in nearby Reynolds and Holcot Woods.

Visiting other sites and hearing from other experts, like community forester Luke Quenby, offers inspiration and a fuller understanding of woodland management. It is wonderful to see the work our allies are undertaking, and just spend time with one another in a different environment.

Strawberries and cream were also delivered and enjoyed in the middle of a downpour (despite Kayte, our volunteer and communications manager's woeful navigation skills).

Thanks to the Forest of Marston Vale for having us, and thank you to all the volunteers for everything they do.

We’re proud to be taking part in Volunteers’ Week 2026 – marking 42 years of saying thank you to all volunteers across the UK for everything they do for society.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of The Greensand Trust.

We couldn't do it without them. Please join us in thanking our volunteers, and the millions of volunteers across the UK who help out in their communities everyday.

This week it is and we are doing our best to track as many of our volunteers down to say thank you in person! They are hard at work all over the Greensand Ridge so we have our work cut out for us.

Yesterday our director of development, Jon, delivered ice creams to practical and conservation volunteers in Rushmere Country Park. Today our senior ecologist Sue, and partnerships development coordinator, Daniel found our Eastern volunteers near Maulden woods and delivered strawberries and cream (which you can see them enjoying here).

With three more days to go what other things do you think we should do to show our gratitude? Must be portable and weather proof... all suggestions welcome 🥰

Having such a diverse mix of volunteer roles allows us to increase our engagement with the public, and share our enthusiasm for the Greensand Ridge. When volunteer Carol heard that we would be putting together a walk programme to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Greensand Ridge Walk, she leapt in to offer to lead a guided walk around Clophill village. With her extensive knowledge of the Greensand Ridge Walk, Carol planned an accessible route to introduce people who might not have had the confidence to try the route on their own.

Carol's walk went brilliantly this past Sunday, with her suggestion of providing a more accessible walk really paying off, with several attendees remarking that they wouldn't have managed a longer route. So, thank you to Carol for the suggestion, and for being such a wonderful walk leader. Thank you also to your support team - Sue, Paul, Jane and Natalie.

Greensand Trust volunteers are the best ambassadors we could have, committed to making Greensand Country a more interesting and engaging place to live and work. If you fancy giving any of our guided walks a try over the summer, head over to our website to book your place.
