Contact us; [email protected] Commissioned in November 1966 Ampthill Sea Cadets paraded on Friday Evenings at Redborne Upper School. Originally named Training Ship Russell (after the Lord Ampthill's family name) the unit grew in strength and regularly paraded 60 cadets. In 1983 new facilities were found and the unit moved to Ampthill Park and had its own building. The addition of a new building on the site in the early 1990's enabled the unit to grow. In 1995 the unit began fundraising to build a new purpose built unit. In 1997 a large grant from the Leopold Muller foundation was gained. To honour this award the unit changed its name to Training Ship Leopold Muller. With funding available the Flitwick Town Council generously granted planning permission on our current site. The new unit was officially opened on the 6th December 1998 and is our current home. Since the move into purpose built facilities the unit has grown in strength and has represented the Eastern Area Sea Cadets at National events such as Drill & Piping, Sailing, Canoeing and Boathandling. Winning the prestigious Canada Trophy in 2018, for BEST UNIT IN THE COUNTRY

HAPPY 362ND BIRTHDAY TO THE ROYAL MARINES! ⚓🇬🇧

Today, 28th October 2026, we celebrate 362 years of the Royal Marines!

Founded in 1664, the Royal Marines have built a proud history of courage, determination, professionalism and service to our nation.

From their earliest days at sea to their role as an elite commando force today, the Royal Marines continue to embody their famous motto:

“Per Mare, Per Terram” – By Sea, By Land.

As part of the Sea Cadet family, we are proud to recognise the traditions, values and achievements of the Royal Marines, which continue to inspire generations of young people.

To all serving and former Royal Marines, and to our Royal Marines Cadets and volunteers, we wish you a very happy 362nd birthday!

Once a Marine, Always a Marine.

Happy Birthday, Royal! 🎂

⚓🇬🇧 TRAFALGAR DAY – 21 OCTOBER 🇬🇧⚓

Today, we commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar, fought on 21 October 1805, and remember the courage, sacrifice and determination of those who served under Vice Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson.

The Battle of Trafalgar remains one of the most significant victories in Royal Naval history, securing Britain’s naval supremacy and leaving a lasting legacy that continues to inspire generations.

Although victorious, the battle came at a great cost, including the loss of Admiral Nelson, who was mortally wounded aboard HMS Victory.

At Flitwick & Ampthill Sea Cadets & Royal Marines Cadets, we are proud of our naval heritage and the values of courage, commitment, respect and discipline that continue to shape our cadets today.

As we reflect on this historic day, we honour all those who fought, served and made the ultimate sacrifice.

⚓ “England expects that every man will do his duty.”

Lest We Forget. 🇬🇧

The Lord-Lieutenant, Vice Lord-Lieutenant and several Deputy Lieutenants visited Bedfordshire cadet units this week to mark National Cadet Week and see the exciting activities that take place each week. Everyone enjoyed their visits — the Lieutenancy thanks the cadets for their warm welcome and the adult volunteers for making it all possible week after week.

What a night last night. The ships company came together for a number of reasons to celebrate staff achievements, cadet awards. To say goodbye and to say hello. To welcome new staff to our family and goodbye to cadets ageing out and moving on. But it's never really goodbye because for whatever reason all of us carry a little bit of sea cadets in our hearts forever and somewhere down the line we will always reflect on happy memories and fun times with a smile and warmth in our hearts.
