BasOp "Basildon Operatic Society"

BasOp "Basildon Operatic Society" ‘The Society for Musical Theatre in Basildon’ Basildon Operatic Society is an established amateur theatre company based in Basildon, Essex.

The origins of the society go back to the 1930s when the organist at St. Mary's Church, Langdon Hills, decided to stage Pirates of Penzance to keep the children in the church choir out of trouble at the weekends. Curiously then known as St. Mary's Athletics Club, the society grew over the years to become first Laindon and District Amateur Operatic Society, and then more recently Basildon Operatic

Society. The society performs in both shows and concerts, currently producing its annual show in late May or early June, and its concerts in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Originally BasOp's shows were exclusively selected from Gilbert and Sullivan's Savoy operas, but these days a good number of musicals are produced too. BasOp is unquestionably Basildon's leading musical theatre society.

GOODBYE TO MATILDA JR! 🥹 What an absolutely incredible week we have had with our BasOp Jnrs. It has been so special and VERY eventful but … the show must go on! … and it truly did! … in BasOp Jnrs style! We are totally in awe of the talent of all the these children, their team work and support for each other this week has been something special to watch 💙 thank you to each and every one of our juniors for making the week so incredible. Huge thank you to The Billericay Theatre for having us, with a huge huge thank you to Rachel for her amazing lighting and sound expertise. Thank you to Mathew Purton who is always there to help us transport, put up and take down our set. Big thank you to the lovely Windmill Theatre School for the hire of the alphabet blocks and fabulous main cast costumes, always fabulous to work with you. Great big thank you to our chaperones who look after our children, we could not do this without you, front of house team, fabulous sell out audiences and of course our BasOp Jnrs team Vikki, Josh, Jane, Laura, Sue & Millie who have worked with these children all week! We CANNOT wait for next year! (All will be revealed soon) And keep your eyes peeled for some BasOp Jnrs workshops coming really soon!! 👀 But for now THANK YOU ALL FOR THE BEST WEEK!

TODAY IS THE DAY … SHOW DAY!! After 5 incredible days these children get the chance to show everyone today their amazing achievement! 5 days!!! That’s all they have had to put a show together! We can’t wait for everyone to see it!! We are so proud of every single one of our BASOP JNRS … go smash it kids!
