This is just one molecule. There are many hundreds to thousands in human milk. Some work together, some seem to act alone. Some are food for the good bacteria in your baby's gut, setting up their gut health and immune system for life. And some we don't understand yet.

They adapt to your baby's age, health, the weather, the time of day/night...

If anyone ever tries to tell you that you're wrong to breastfeed, or to breastfeed for as long as you and your little one want to, or that it's pointless, disruptive, selfish (!!?)... Please remember how incredible you are, send them to our website, and go and enjoy your day :)

Very good read if you have a “fussy baby “ in a sling! Also worth finding out where South Essex Slings are holding their next library session so you can try out slings for comfort!

😩My baby hates the sling😩

I hear this a lot, so I thought it was time for a post.

Let’s pick this apart a bit - baby fusses when they go in the sling so you automatically think the sling is the issue. But is it?

Is baby hungry?
Do they have a dirty nappy?
Is it a time when they are fussy generally?

💜How do you feel?
Are you a bit anxious about this new sling/carrier? If you are baby will absolutely pick up on this and will become anxious too.

❤️How are you holding baby?
Are you supporting under their bum making them feel safe and secure?
Or are you supporting across their back, potentially pressing on pressure points and making them arch their back whilst not feeling secure?

💙Are you moving baby’s position a lot?
Each time they change position or your hands change position on them they get a little more unsettled.

💛Then, once baby is in what do you do?
Do you stay there worrying about what is wrong?
Or do you MOVE!! Move round the house. Go outside. Walk round the garden or street.
Change the scenery. Give it a few mins and see what happens.

If baby doesn’t calm then they may be uncomfortable.
Check their hands are up by their face, check their legs are tucked up so they’re in a squat position.
Check that their spine has a gentle curve and isn’t being squashed against you.

In the vast majority of babies, once they’re in and you’re moving, they will calm very quickly.

If you’re concerned that your baby hates being carried, please book in to see me. I’m almost certain I can help you.

(I’m back at work from 1st Nov. )
